On certain topics, complete indifference also bothers me. I've seen this called a "purity test," and I don't get it.

Why shouldn't I be bothered when someone "doesn't have a side" on taking away people's rights? I very much prefer that they care, at least enough to not support aggressors with careless neutrality.

They don't mind folks being erased or even killed, but I'm the radical for not being ok with that?

I don't think so, where did you get that? Last I checked, they weren't interested in adding it. That's why tools like bfs exist.

A single line of documentation? How about looking into some context? Hurt feelings my ass, Andreas isn't some innocent, silly little guy who never does anything questionable.

And which cause exactly are you talking about? Because I don't know about you, but I'll stand for real, marginalized people over lines of code on a screen any day.

Thats part of why I try really hard not to let perfect be the enemy of good.

That's fair, I hope I didn't come across as attacking usage of "imperfect" solutions. It's definitely not my goal, I'm in the "try to use the least bad thing" camp.

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge and engage with that context. I spend too much time on the internet and fully understand it's unsustainable for most—it's not doing me good, either—so I'm glad I get to share relevant content I've accumulated from time to time.

You're not even moving the goalposts, you're dancing with them.

I give you pointed arguments, you ignore them, then give me unrelated nonsense.

Documentation shouldn't have pronouns since that's the wrong tone

What do you mean wrong tone? Pronouns are in everyday conversation, in companies' documents and in the government's too. I'm reiterating to you, @Possibly linux, that they're in Linux Kernel documentation. Better call Torvalds and tell him to fix that tone. The singular they has been in use for over half a millenium, and is now used by so many people and institutions, it'd actually be easier to list those who refuse to use them.

I think the dev probably just hasn't been exposed much to transgender people. Reacting with hate immediately doesn't help at all.

I've seen folks calmly and respectfully explain to him what's wrong, but he just doubles down. Now we say, "maybe don't use that guy's software," and people like you come out of hiding to defend him. Clearly, any hate that may have been is gone—it's just snowflakes scared of pronouns, all the way down.

Yours is the most captivating comment in this entire thread.

Joking for real, or seriously for real? The vast majority of people that used twitter are still using twitter. This applies to users in the united states, of course, but it especially applies to those in the entire rest of the world, where elon's shit largely hasn't crossed the culture/language barrier, or doesn't matter to people.

First theyre going after trans people.

That first appears to be skipping over a whole lot of people who've been getting fucked for a long time.

Maybe you're already aware, but bluesky doesn't operate with instances like in ActivityPub land.

I've seen many people I believe are using their own PDS, but yes, discoverability is likely better because a relay is meant to aggregate and share all data it can (look up "bluesky firehose").

P.S. Mastodon's devs are part of a new initiative to improve this area of the Fediverse. Because it's so recent, we'll have to wait to see how it goes.
