Thanks. You're not wrong, and I appreciate the well-written response. Some might say you are defending/advocating proprietary software with this stance, but I don't think there is a clear answer either way that applies to every circumstance.
how does this compare to https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF ?
Sorry I'm not sure I understand what it is you think I'm missing. It's FOSS, works on Linux, has a CLI, works for both files and directories... please enlighten me what I got wrong?
Because in a way, everything is political, to someone, whether you like it or not. Even mentioning the ACLU could imply there is some agenda behind what OP is doing.
Can't someone who has your SSN just thaw it themselves?
Hardware compatibility. I have one machine that won't boot any Linux installer at all. Another with constant gpu driver problems. Another where Bluetooth doesn't work at all. Another where wifi firmware crashes all the time. It never ends.
It is not possible to have privacy online anymore. Full stop.
except windows binaries are actually forward compatible.
even with the most popular distros, for example if you tried to take a typical gui program from say, ubuntu 22, and run it on ubuntu 24, it won't work. even worse for other distros.
Do note though that this does not prevent them from using Javascript to detect your OS. Even Tor Browser does not hide it for some bizarre reason... which IMO makes Linux users blend in a WHOLE lot less.
You're not missing anything. Also I'd like to know how you're blocking those.
