That may be true but if you're using a frontend then you're just trusting them with your data instead. Perhaps many of those could be run by people with even more malicious intent. I have interacted with quite a few invidious/piped instance owners, and most of them are quite... unstable individuals.

I agree these are alternatives, although for the larger solutions, I would argue that none of them are comparable for professional users, besides maybe Blender. I know many animators that use it, but it's more like a tool for a specific purpose, while they also simultaneously use many other proprietary programs.

The big difference is that formats used in open source software is open source.

I don't. I ask because confidently wrong people are one of the biggest reasons why the internet sucks IMO, and I want to understand why people do it.

3rd party audits and legal encounters

The problem I have with this is that audits or court cases do not prove that the server is only using that same exact code at the instant you are using it... changes to software are constantly made all the time, and they could all invalidate previous audits or presumptions of privacy or security.
