This comic is absolutely true: The AI companies don't give two shits about getting consent before feeding content into their AI training databases.

But it's also true that they don't need it. They're not redistributing the works, so it doesn't matter (from a copyright perspective).

Courts have already reaffirmed our right to save stuff that gets delivered to our computers over the Internet. If we changed that rule, it would mean the end of the Internet, Lemmy, memes, etc.

AI companies suck—yes—but don't let anger at their behavior convince you that removing everyone's basic rights is a good idea.

I'd argue that the most inhuman behavior is coming from the Texas legislature.

Generally speaking: Things that humans would never survive. Like, if someone is thrown so hard against a wall that they go through it, they're not going to live (this happens with non-super characters). Or when someone is falling from a great height and they grab hold of something to catch themselves. Yeah... No.

Or in scenes where fire is present... People having a discussion without coughing their brains out, being able to see, and easily keeping their eyes open, just a few feet from raging flames.

After experiencing any and all of these things the characters will just continue in the story and be able to move and breathe like nothing happened. Sometimes they'll move with a limp or cough occasionally but this is usually right before they make a 100m dash in record time.

Sick employees don't perform well.

You assume performance matters. A ridiculously large number of jobs are "bullshit jobs" and just require a body/someone to be there.

Example: When I was a teen I had a job at a roller skating rink that involved working at a snack bar. On Tuesdays (designated little kids figure skating practice time) the likelihood that anyone would enter the place was slim and the likelihood that someone would come to the snack bar was probably 1/10th of that. However, if the place was claiming to be open at that time they needed someone there. If only to prevent people from stealing the snacks/drinks 😁

Even at "modern" offices there's tons of jobs that don't have anything practically measurable in terms of "performance". How do you measure the performance of a receptionist who's job is to just hand people clipboards and then enter their info? Smiles? Typos? LOL

Even "fancy" jobs like "systems administrator" often have no realistic measure of performance. Did anything break today? No? Fantastic job 😁👍

I made 633 posts for an average post karma of 164.57.

Hopefully I'll be able to bring this level of engagement to the Fediverse! 👍
