If extraterrestrial, sapient alien life has been discovered here on Earth by the US government it was probably uncovered via signals intelligence gathering. Not via any sort of physical interaction or visual observation.

Everyone thinks that to find aliens you need to search the skies, looking for visual evidence or radio patterns. No one bothers to think that a mass surveillance network across the globe would pick it up first—from local sources. Meaning: They're already here and could have been for hundreds of thousands of years (or longer).

There's probably an autonomous alien monitoring station broadcasting information about Earth on the regular. Probably more than one.

Exactly the type of thing that would be investigated by signals intelligence analysts who spend their days trying to figure out, "WTF was that?" Looking at data gathered from all over the world (for spying reasons).

That's why Obama would laugh at the question of, "where are the aliens?" Because he wouldn't know! He'd just know that they're here... Somewhere. Probably just super advanced machines, connected to a quantum-level universe-wide network.

The real question to ask is, "are they enjoying our memes?"

Probably not shitty parents. There's a zillion causes for suicidal thoughts that have nothing at all to do with parenting.

If they were super religious and/or super conservative though... Those are actual causes of teen suicide. It's not the religion, it's the lack of acceptance of the child (for whatever reason, such a LGBTQ+ status).

Basically, parenting is only a factor if they're not supportive, resulting in the child feeling rejected/isolated. Other than that, you could be model parents and your child may still commit suicide.

This fight goes way, way back. Microsoft worked with the media industry in the early 2000s to create a fully-encrypted media input/output pipeline for PCs in order to combat Linux adoption. Microsoft knew that it would be impossible for open source software to decrypt the media streams without making the encryption keys available so they went way out of their way to make sure things like HDCP would "protect" the media being played back on a PC from "illegal" copying.

It starts with the TPM module in your motherboard/processor and continues outward all the way though to your HDMI monitor (which has to have the hardware keys necessary to decrypt the content).

BTW: The keys for HDMI HDCP have long since been leaked so you can now cheaply and easily buy all sorts of HDMI capture devices on the cheap from places like AliExpress (they don't ask any questions). Get one of those and your PC won't even know that you're capturing screenshots.

Why equate one with the other? You can have a completely unmoderated or poorly moderated echo chamber. Conversely you can have a carefully/poorly moderated or completely unmoderated communities that aren't echo chambers.

The concepts are orthogonal.

In fact, I'd argue that completely unmoderated communities are the most likely to end up as echo chambers. Because only those with extreme views would stick around so the natural end state is a community of extremists. Example: 8chan
