Dancing in the shower without music isn't nearly as fun 🤷
I’ve heard from copywriters who now fear losing their apartments, one who turned to sex work,
One of these jobs is not like the others!
Something tells me that boom arm is just a tad too short, compared to the fucking telescope of a camera it's paired with.
It's beyond "an arms race." AI has become a commodity that's everywhere and it's being used and developed by zillions of completely different groups all over the world with wildly varying use cases and completely different goals.
At this point, trying to ban it would be like trying to ban dandelions from growing.
Hasn't anyone taught you how to download more?
I like super obscure achievements that aren't documented at all. Like, your weapon and armor just broke but you're in an easy area so you just keep grinding, trying to find that rare loot (or whatever). Suddenly, you get an achievement, "Naked Brawler" 😁
You check the wiki and that one's not in the list 👌
I remember getting an achievement for something like, "Last Light" in some game where I ran out of torches in an area where you take severe damage from darkness. I got the achievement when I lit that last torch, very close to the end of the area.
It wasn't documented anywhere! I posted about it to the game forum (this was back when forums were the primary place to talk about such things) and no one had seen it before.
Like a year later, the community finally figured out the sequence of events necessary to get that achievement and it only gets awarded to characters who are too far in to make it out before the torch goes out and those that read a very specific, obscure book in a starter area.
"You read the book‽"
"I... Uh... Read all the books. Doesn't everyone read all the books at least once?"
🤣
These dudes could do pushups without using their arms.
Is that even necessary? Anyone with a CAD tool can recreate the 3D printed parts from a glance and a few specs.
It's literally a tube. Which—to be fair—is a "weapon of mass destruction" according to President Bush (the other war criminal president).
This is super interesting. I think academia is going to need to clearly divide "learning" into two categories:
- What you need to memorize.
- What you need to understand.
If you're being tested on how well you memorized something, using AI to answer questions is cheating.
If you're being tested on how well you understand something, using AI during an exam isn't going to help you much unless it's something that could be understood very quickly. In which case, why are you bothering to test for that knowledge?
If a student has an hour to answer ten questions about a complex topic, and they can somehow understand it well enough by asking AI about it, it either wasn't worthy of teaching or that student is wasting their time in school; they clearly learn better on their own.
~~Reunify~~ Conquer.
If Taiwan loses its independence, it will immediately lose its status as a special place for cheap manufacturing of high tech chips. It will just be another island. I don't understand how China doesn't get this.
If I were in Xi's shoes I would cease the blustering and focus more on partnering. Guarantee their independence. Protect it, in fact. Let them know that China is not a threat to their freedoms and give them special protection when visiting China so Taiwanese citizens can participate in both economies simultaneously.
Simple things like NOT treating their criticisms of the Chinese government as crimes would go a long way towards peaceful cooperation.
Of course, China considers criticism of China to be extremely anti-China and must not be allowed. It apparently never occurs to them that this lack of freedom is the very thing that gets in the way of their technological development.
It's cultural from the ground up, too: If the boss was appointed by the Chinese government (or just close with the one ruling party), criticism of the boss is considered criticism of China. You can't get much innovation out of a workplace where critical feedback can result in your arrest.
Even the bosses at employers can have their decisions overruled by the government and there's nothing they can do about it. This lack of freedom is what leads to situations like this:
"OK... I guess we're putting melamine in the baby formula."
Finally, a listicle that could save ~~lives~~ Christmas.

Actually, there's a whole lot more swearing and pounding of the desk. Fists shaking in the air and screaming, "Anthropic!"
