Wait till they ruin the internet, make users unable of any meaningful general purpose computation on their own hardware, then everybody has to beg them for computing and knowledge.
this is bigger than a few AI companies. This is the scheme of global governments moving towards full totalitarianism and control.
Call me paranoid but I highly believe this is the route we're at.
Permissive license is basically for you and contributors to provide free labour and when mature enough, big corp X can just exploit it and use it for their own benefit off your free labour if needed.
There are actual good and big projects that use permissive licensing that have not been overtaken (postgres for example) but they mostly have very strong, cohesive business and market plan to achieve that, plus the bature of their software.
If your software is actually complicated and useful, don't let corporations exploit it for nothing.
Keep your project healthy and alive by using LGPL or some similar FLOSS license instead of MIT. MIT and other permissive licenses are horrible.
I actually wrote a blog about this a few months back. It was after a 12 day war (Israel+USA attacking Iran) and 40 day internet blackout, and then we got into another war (Israel+USA attacking Iran) and a 90-100 day(lost track) internet blackout.
It isn't exactly "how to survive the apocalypse" guide but it was a really helpful guide for myself and my friends and helped me keep working in those blackout days.
It's isn't focused on hardware, just software, since I'm a software engineer.

SystemD works great, but the corporations and politics behind it will ruin Linux if they fully take over. They are already optimizing heavily for IoT just because IBM is heavily focused on IoT
