I mean we do need that, but that has nothing to do with the problem. the majority of people don't live in those vast expanses of nothingness. Most of our cities are just as populated as most European cities, we just have shit laws around zoning, single family housing, population density, NIMBYs blocking any change, and people that think public transit is for poor people. They don't travel to other countries and so have no clue how good things could actually be.

This law will just make the problem worse. It says that <16 won’t be able to have accounts. Not being logged into YouTube means you get the worst algorithm imaginable.

I think it’s so that it’s really low odds because you have lots of fights. Wouldn’t feel real if every third encounter had something like that.

It was purposefully designed that way so it’s not a bug. It’s just bad design. Like they say at the end of the article, people view private vs public as a security boundary. So it’s incredibly surprising and unintuitive behavior that has clearly resulted in security breaches.

Your comments can be public, but your data is yours. That’s the whole point of GDPR. Think of an art gallery. The gallery does not own the art a lot of the time, they simply show it. The art is owned by the artist. If they want to take it down they can. The same thing applies here. Your data, you get to choose what happens to it in the eyes of the law.
