I mean, I'm glad he said it but anyone who's been paying attention already knows this. The entire country is collectively waiting for the bubble to burst as it is. You also have to separate things like Machine Learning from LLMs. Two totally different use cases. They've not even clearly articulated any end goals. Even NASA had 'put a man on the moon', not just 'more space'. From what I can tell their goals boil down to either 'make money' or 'make God'. The former works great for individuals but not a whole class of technology and the latter would surely not garner trillions in investment dollars. LLMs are certainly great productivity tools but what is their goal really for a CEO to be able to fire their entire staff so they can sit down at a computer and type in 'make my business better' and they think that'll work?

I don't even think anyone is clear on what they are supposedly working toward, which appears to be some kind of singularity AI god a la Hyperion's TechnoCore... this shit is feeling more like Christiantiy every day.

I am legit thankful that we have such an incompotent brand of fascism in the US. This would have been much harder if they'd had even a modicum of patience or cleverness instead of just cruelty.

Quick timeline...

  • 2022: ChatGPT launches, and presumably, AI companies would have already been forecasting as to their energy needs over the next 5-10 years
  • 2024-2025: AI companies pour money and support into DJT leaving many of us perplexed given Silicon Valley's history of being left-leaning.
  • 2025: DJT takes office, promptly eviscerates EPA and regulators rit large
  • 2026: Data centers run amok

Guess we now know why...

It's because we all have struggled in our own ways and game recognizes game, we see someone who fought demons and came out the other side and we know what that's like because we fight them too. Addiction is a great equalizer. Doesn't matter who your dad is or how much money you have, it will still get you. Sure, it could be argued that some with more resources can get better treatment or that people who no resources can't get ANY treatment but there is no cure for addiction that money can buy, unlike other diseases.

Exactly this!

'I Nominated 3 Supreme Court Justices and All I Got Was This Stupid Shirt'

[-] unspkbl_horror@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

I agree it never should have been this close but to push back on the doomsayers, here's antoher viewpoint...

Heritage Foundation and their ilk spent billions to put Trump in office over the years, they got to put THREE Supreme Court Justices on the bench and STILL can't get everything they want when they want it.

It turns out Democracy IS for sale but its waaaaaaaaaaaaay more expensive than these morons anticipated and these old fucks just are not going to see a complete rewriting of the Constitution in their lifetimes. Eventually, they'll be dead and next time, it won't even get to the Supreme Court.
