Yeah but that's not weird Al. There are other songs about climate change but my point was none by weird Al

[-] vrek@programming.dev 1 points 46 minutes ago

I love weird Al but you just made me think... I don't recall a single song about climate change.

Feel free to correct me, I may just have a bad memory

If that's a real fear... When was the last time police caught a knife wielding murderer in a stocking up before anyone was killed?

I like "life at reset" series. Basically guy is playing mmo and on top of leader boards. He gets betrayed by his "friend" ends up as a goblin and can't log out. Through the books explores concepts like rights of a true Ai, dealing with emotions of betrayal, advancements in technology, sacrifice for family, purpose of your life and more. It's 6 books so not a quick read but interesting and thought provoking.

What I always found funny is the drug trade. No, not medicine I mean the illegal drugs. They typically start at grams(metric) go up to ounces (imperial) then pounds(imperial) then back to kilograms(metric).

I don't care which we use(I prefer metric but won't die on that hill) but wish we would all just agree on one. Like hex keys, you need 2 sets one metric one imperial, same with socket sets. Or go to a machinist and ask them to "take a mil off" of some part, do you mean millimeter or millionth of an inch? Same thing with measurement gear, do you measure pressure in bar, psi, inHg, torr and for more fun are you measuring them positively or negatively... Yes that's a thing. I had a sensor to measure humidity, the output was in ppm(parts per million) but the calibration was done in degrees Celsius dew point but our specificion was in ppm. Those measurements are not linearly related. So let's say the sensor came back out of calibration as arrived(typically it would be adjusted and sent back to us within calibration). Now we had to find the closest measurement we had to the limit in ppm, convert that to degrees Celsius dew point, add in the percentage of reading outside of calibration, add in a extra safety factor, convert that back to ppm, compare to specified limit, determine if any product was made outside specifications and then write a report about if it actually mattered...

Have you considered putting various conclusions on a plastic sheet?

If I've learned anything about owls... I don't really have a choice

So we also can't have a bowl which means I gotta figure out how to have a plate of cereal for breakfast today... Or grow wings and start hunting rodents...

5 seconds after this picture

"mom, did I do it right that time?"

Stuff like deliver a calzone to a Somalia warlord in active fighting area. An inner city gang leader really wants some authentic Raman before his enemies find his safe house. A South American revolutionary really has a craving for taco bell but is in a small base in the Amazon rain forest.

Don't mean this sexually just curious about people's preferences. Are you the bath robe type? Underwear and a T shirt? Nothing? Fully dressed? Sweat suit?

I believe I have a good understanding of what is stored on the stack(for example primitive data types) and what's stored on the heap(for example an instance of a class. But is there anyway to verify this for educational/verification of my expectations reasons?

It can be in a debugger(gdb or rad debugger or worst case vs) or directly code based(thinking something like gettype(variable) but like isstackstored(variable).

Do not give out any personal information. This is like do you have a girl who cries at the smallest inconvenience? Do you have someone who is a parent and that alone is now their personality? Do you have a guy who you hide from Monday mornings so he doesn't tell you about the fish he caught on Sunday that was THIS BIG!

Keep it light hearted!

We were talking about what to have for dinner and she wanted a wrap. I made a comment about not having any beets. She barely reacted... So I am lighting the dad-signal, give me some good recipes for wraps with beets! 😋

Not talking about the people themselves just how awesome some names are. My favorites is Stephan Wolfram and Matt Goldbolt!

Last night I dreamed I was having some sort of oral surgery but the surgery ward was also an unrelated production floor. They gave me anesthesia(six different chemicals all given orally) and told me to sit down and wait. As I sat down a nurse told me to "I got your soup for after surgery since you'll probably be hungry". I then had to move to let production continue and some kid in a red shirt ran over came over took my soup and ran away, I chased him but before I caught him he poured the whole thing out onto the parking lot. I finally caught him and asked why he stole it he said "so you can't have it". I went back inside and looked for the nurse to get more soup. I couldn't find her, I kept looking at the door, a bunch of people kept coming in but never the nurse. I woke up before I ever found the nurse to get more soup.

It was pretty weird, what's your weirdest dream?

I bought a sandwich yesterday which was a hot sandwich (in this case it was a Cuban but could be cheese steak or meatball or chicken parm or whatever). I only ate half and put the other half in the fridge. What's the best way to reheat it?

Microwave seems to destroy the bread. Stove top seems to be uneven and burn the bottom before the top is warm.

Nothing serious, this is for fun. My example was a friend told me you get computer viruses if you use disks that were dropped on the ground outside. His logic was he was told you get sick if you eat stuff off the ground. Sickness is caused by viruses. Computers can get viruses. Computers "eat" floppy disks. So if you put a dirty floppy into a computer you will make it sick by giving it a virus.

Yes it's mostly wrong but you can sorta see the logic...

What I mean is everyone wants both. And I'm not talking huge differences. I don't mean go from 30k per year to 120k per year or going home sweating everyday to watching Netflix most days. What brought the question up was I was in hospital and the computer the scanned all the medication and machines into was on my right side of bed and Iv pole where all medications were on my left. Nurses also had to deal with wired scanners which they had to hold up above the bed to walk around. Not a huge problem but cover 30 rooms with 4-16 different medications to swap out per day was probably a major pain(nurses can chime in disagreeing).

Another thing I've seen is people in a warehouse with systems logging all locations a product could be in and saying yeah we have some of that in one of these and they have to walk around to check several locations to find which still has some.

So you want a 2k-6k raise... If your job was easier how much would that make you stay instead of just demanding a raise?

Edit: this is not a real situation but say I have 4 employees under me and an extra 25k in budget. Would you prefer a raise or to improve your job?

19

Unrelated to topic but I was in hospital recently and nurses came around to do vital, blood pressure oxygen temperature.i was having a high blood pressure. Often I lay with crossed legs but a nurse told me to uncross my legs and blood pressure went down. Why why cross legs increase blood pressure ?

I don't mean like I fantisize of it. I literally dream of it in sleep. Like last night I dreamed about inspecting welds under a high magnifying microscope. Then a woman comes up and asks a unrelated question so I get up and go help her fix an electrical test system. I don't really know the solution so I just list off two people who probably know and helped with similar issues I had and then I woke up.

God damn it brain if I'm going to work for you then I should get paid by you...

Other day I was making a spreadsheet in excel. After a while I got up to go to coffee machine. A former Co worker comes up and tells me about his daughter going to school that morning. I just wanted some coffee but it didn't matter. I had to listen to this guy's daughter school drop off. Then I woke up in real life...
