I swear, if I hear about another openly queer (and also non-TERF) person opposing DIY HRT in the current sociopolitical climate, I am going to owe my landlord for minor property damages.

i.e. I am going to bang my head against a wall until I break through to the other side.

I don’t oppose DIY HRT in the slightest, I just wish that when people are talking about it there was a little more acknowledgment that DIY is a LOT more dangerous (legally) for people using testosterone.

There’s a lot of ‘just buy it online!’ which makes sense for estrogen, because as far as I know the only risk of importing that for personal use in the US is it getting confiscated by customs. In comparison testosterone is a schedule III drug, in the same class as ketamine and opium. Just possessing it without a prescription is a crime, and if someone even has more than a 30 day supply in some states they can end up in prison.

Tl;dr: DIY good, testosterone laws bad, please keep us trans men and trans mascs in your thoughts 😔

I always wondered about FtM DIY because of that. I know there are bodybuilder sites and overseas sites for it and generally people aren't getting prosecuted for having it. It just seems like something they'll start prosecuting in order to get to trans folks.

Am getting old cis man. Wish I could share the natural extra testosterone that causes testosterone-based problems. Best I can do is a high 5 for the bros. I'll bring it every time.

PS I know nothing about anyone's stash of testosterone they keep in their old prescription bottles.

balding guys sharing their testosterone like vampires opening their veins to welcome another into their fold

Sorry, but the phrase "It's not gay when he sucks it out" popped into my head.

I just wish it didn't come down to having to DIY your HRT. It saddens me greatly.

I'd be against it solely for the reason that it's safer when following an actual medical professional. But again, I'm saddened that it's not an option for so many people in other countries (I'm not American).

But I guess if your government won't support you, DIY is your only other option.

There are valid health concerns with it. Oftentimes it's not inspected or approved by the FDA, and you are usually injecting it straight into your bloodstream. There are also conditions, that may have not yet been diagnosed that could make taking additional hormones dangerous.

Just be very well read concerning the literature, make sure you understand your body well (underlying conditions, potentially hereditary conditions too), ask for medical advice and try your best to buy from a reputable source or source FDA approved drugs.
