Rules

While we are not an official Mozilla community, we have adopted the Mozilla Community Participation Guidelines as far as it can be applied to a bin.

Rules

  1. Always be civil and respectful
Don't be toxic, hostile, or a troll, especially towards Mozilla employees. This includes gratuitous use of profanity.

  2. Don't be a bigot
No form of bigotry will be tolerated.

  3. Don't post security compromising suggestions
If you do, include an obvious and clear warning.

  4. Don't post conspiracy theories
Especially ones about nefarious intentions or funding. If you're concerned: Ask. Please don’t fuel conspiracy thinking here. Don’t try to spread FUD, especially against reliable privacy-enhancing software. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Show credible sources.

  5. Don't accuse others of shilling
Send honest concerns to the moderators and/or admins, and we will investigate.

  6. Do not remove your help posts after they receive replies
Half the point of asking questions in a public sub is so that everyone can benefit from the answersβ€”which is impossible if you go deleting everything behind yourself once you've gotten yours.

You can donate to Mozilla , but those donations will not be used for Firefox development (no developer salaries, etc). Firefox is developed by a for-profit that only takes money through sponsorship deals like the Google search partnership. Your donations are used for everything else, including tens of millions of dollars of AI venture capital grants for example.

Okay, well assuming that is true, I'm not entirely sure what to do with that information. I ask again,

Is the point that you should go ahead and use chrome because Mozilla currently has a shitty funding model?

[–] XLE@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Heavens no. Use a fork, and probably don't donate to Mozilla unless you agree with how they're spending your donations (i.e. not Firefox).

I'd use Firefox over Chrome no question, but I'd use a decent fork of Chrome before Firefox.

@XLE @TrickDacy I wouldn't use a Chrome fork over Firefox, but I would also disable all data collection in Firefox.

Just the browser, please.

Just use one of the multiple good Firefox forks?

Nice! Which one do you use? Waterfox for me.

Right-on, I've been thinking about trying it out sometime. You like it, I'm assuming?
