I am on that list for some reason. I have no idea what Tesseract is, I have no interest in Tesseract or its creator and I don't give a shit about any of this.

But when it was brought to my attention that I am on this rando's shit list, I took a minute to go to his community - hosted on his own instance apparently - and left a comment on his thread about the blacklist to tell him he's just not that important. And now I'm banned from his instance altogether apparently.

And you know what? Strangely enough, I still don't give a shit πŸ™‚

But I will say this: what a sad, empty life this poor man must lead to feel the need to curate a Fediverse blacklist.

There's only like 20 people that post on this thing and apparently he blocked like 75% of them.

All the more despondency I feel being weighed, measured, and found acceptable

But I will say this: what a sad, empty life this poor man must lead to feel the need to curate a Fediverse blacklist.

Just imagine how much his entire little world must be imploding right now.

He really thought he'd figured it out. Found a way to control and censor Lemmy to his liking, without anybody ever being the wiser. But then one day, out of nowhere, he gets found out. Now he's a laughing stock and pariah across all of Lemmy, and his censorship scheme is done, instances dropping his frontend left and right. And, worse, he keeps digging himself deeper, making alt accounts and trying to argue his case ... and people keep seeing through the alt accounts and giving him even more shit for it. And to top it all off, he doesn't have enough self-awareness to ever ask "am I the asshole here?" -- he just keeps whining about how unfair this all is to him.

And the best part is, he deserves every bit of that.

Idk he can just make a new account using a private frontend that does all the same blocking

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 11 points 2 days ago

He can block things for himself, sure. But everybody can do that. You don't need to develop a whole frontend for that, it's a feature of Lemmy that you can block whoever you want.

What he's now missing out on is that he can no longer block things for other people, like he so desperately wants to do.

I was looking forward to reading it but I'm only getting "Not found."

Am I the only one or did it just go down?

He added a poorly written DDOS script to his main page to attack db0, I'm guessing that his hosting account was suspended after a complaint about it.

[–] spicehoarder@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

That would be funny if it weren't so damn sad.

I am on that list for some reason

This holds up, I have a positive tag on you like eery other name I've recognised on the list.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

You didn't have to be so nonchalant about it. You're really acting like an extreme- oh.... Yeah, as you were.

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Man, I agree with your comment you left there; he needs to get over himself.

While I didn't read his whole rant, I read a good bit of it. He does have a point, in that he's not obliged to accommodate users, and nor are we obliged to use his client.

This is basically history repeating itself again with the Beehaw defederation. Fitting with the motifs associated with history repeating itself, the repeat is a temu knock off of the original.

In both cases it seems pretty immature, at least in approach, but structure isn't necessarily bad and it's a big ocean.

He does have a point, in that he’s not obliged to accommodate users

He might not be obligated to "accommodate" users, but I'd argue he is obligated to inform users.

If he'd made the blocklist public and an acknowledged 'feature' of his frontend from the beginning, then sure. Everything would be fine. Some users might want to use it without the blocklist, but he's not obliged to provide that for them.

Making the blocklist secret, though, is deceptive, manipulative, and underhanded. And it goes against the entire ethos of both open source and the fediverse.

I've been around the fediverse longer than the age of my account would suggest, but I missed the drama around Beehaw somehow - what was the story there?

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 points 3 days ago

Beehaw is by approval only for accounts. They're really clear about this, but they also went through a huge defederation with a lot of big instances.
