account creation (lemmy.zip)

I’m trying to make a new account on lemmy.ml because lemmy.zip is now blocked in the uk and i want a new username. Whenever i try to make a new account i get ‘user_already_exists’ even when i use an email address that i haven’t tried before. I also tried the hello@lemmy.zip email but no reply. Who can i contact to get my account?

lemmy.zip is now blocked in the uk

Uh… what is happening in the UK?

Edit to add:

curl -sI https://lemmy.zip/ | grep '^location:'
location: https://uk.lemmy.zip/

https://uk.lemmy.zip/

Access to Lemmy.zip Restricted for UK Users

Due to the United Kingdom’s Online Safety Act, users from the UK can no longer access Lemmy.zip.

Lemmy.zip is hosted in Finland, and to ensure compliance with international regulations while avoiding any legal risks associated with the Act, we have made the difficult decision to block UK access. As a volunteer-run platform, we cannot guarantee full compliance with the Act’s vague and expansive requirements. Additionally, we are unwilling to implement invasive age verification methods that would compromise user privacy by requiring the collection of personal data.

If you disagree with these restrictions, we encourage you to contact your Member of Parliament (MP) to express your concerns about government overreach in internet regulation.

Uh… what is happening in the UK?

UK Online Safety Act.

As in, every Brit who wants to use any kind of online service must prove that they're 18+ IRL. Not just by clicking a checkbox. That isn't sufficient. But by sending a copy of their ID or passport to the admins.

Option #1: As an admin, demand all your UK users send in rock-solid proof that they're 18+ IRL and ban those who don't.

Option #2: As an admin, save yourself the hassle and IP-block the UK.

Option #3: As an admin, save yourself all this hassle, don't do jack $#!§ and risk the UK declaring your service illegal by UK laws and blocking both your domain and your IPs.

Lemmy.zip chose option #2.
