I really wish Labour would see that the electorate has figured out that neoliberal policies don't make our lives better. They are in the perfect position to lead us through the changes that are coming. Their refusal to acknowledge the need for structural change reminds me of the impotence of the American democrats.
The old tricks aren't working anymore. They need to reinvent themselves based on what the Millenials and later actually want. Basically: stop robbing young people and giving it to the retirees.
Sorry for the rant. It's just frustrating to watch.
True. Labour should stop presenting a policy platform that fits within budget and just give themselves and infinite budget like the greens. People dont want realistic they want simple solutions to complex issues. They dont want to try get the most good out of a finite budget they want endless deficit spending.
Labour should promise to fix isreal/Palestine, end the war in ukraine solve racism and give everyone a free house.
I'd be happy with saving ~$3b a year by means testing super.
While they are at it they could remove the landlords' interest deductions to save another ~$2b.
Perhaps we could spend this money of paying nurses enough so they want to stay here instead of move to Oz.

Changing super requires a ton of political capital that no party has or is willing to spend. Ultimately it needs to be done but its not something to be done on the campaign trail.
Labour did phase out the landlord interest deduction last time they were in. It wouldnt be crazy to assume they wouldnt do it again. I think they are holding off on giving their stance on this because its not close enough to the election.
They could but they can't do everything. Labour doesnt campaign on an infinite budget like the greens. We are in a crisis with no end in sight and Nurse pay is already good, 80k start up to 160k is fine. If thats not enough they can go to aus we can get overseas nurses. There is more pressing things to spend money on.
