Luan was a 17-year-old trans boy. When authorities recovered his body, injuries to his neck and face, blood, burns and preliminary forensic observations pointed to severe violence before his death.
Firefighters had extinguished flames in the field before Luan was discovered face down and partially undressed. Police documented possible drag marks and tire marks nearby and collected a sandal, necklace and phone-charger cable from the area. Those physical traces became part of the homicide investigation, but the available record did not determine whether Luan died at that location or was brought there afterward.
In the days that followed, Civil Police sought surveillance footage and information about vehicles that may have traveled near the area. Rain had affected portions of the scene, adding another obstacle to efforts to preserve and examine potential evidence. No suspect had emerged in the latest verified reporting.
i might get crucified for this but anyway, i don't understand why we have to spread the word of every trans person who gets murdered
as a trans person, it makes me feel like shit hearing about this all the time and i'm probably not the only one
Nobody's making you engage with the world but it isn't going to stop turning on your behalf. If you feel more comfortable in ignorance then by all means live in it but it's absurd to suggest that public discourse should cater to your sensibilities.
Cis people need to know. I feel you though, it fucking sucks
Because most people think hate crimes are overblown and that lynchings are some obscure relic of the past and not something that still occurs regularly.
This is why I don’t post this news in trans communities. It’s in news comms where we hear of countless horrible things everyday.
Cis people need to hear this and understand that we are an extremely marginalised group suffering hate. We are such a small minority that we can never improve this on our own without them.
Imagine if people went silent on Gaza and stopped posting about all the deaths there. Would that be a good outcome?
Victims of hate crimes deserve their stories being told. If it makes you uncomfortable good, hate crimes should do that.
this is rather insensitive. you're basically saying that people have a moral obligation to constantly expose themselves to things that make their mental health worse
You do not have the right to remain comfortable. Your comfort should never take priority over the real world, and if it does then your comfort is at the expense of real people's lives. That is literally the main problem with the society of the imperial core, we care about our comfort so much that it keeps us complacent even during times of genocide.
EDIT: Rephrased for comprehension
what a vile thing to say to a minority
For context since we're playing that card I'm also trans.
then you should know that we all already are hyperaware of how fucked up the society we live in is, every single one of us are completely aware that this is happening and that a lot of us have mental issues from existing in this hateful society and that this kind of stuff affects some people A LOT more than others, depending on how bad your mental state is to begin with and how empathetic you are
shame on you, seriously. shame on you
I am also asking myself, if it is of any relevance to tell readers, if the person was trans or not. At least at this stage, the motivation for the crime is unknown.
Does this raise awareness, or will the opposite happen? I really can’t tell.
The source is a trans-focused site, so yes it's relevant to the readers.
Oh, I did not check that. Then yes, super relevant in that case.
I'd prefer that the world's campaign against trans people was documented and widely known - but I fully understand where you're coming from
The world is quantum. We need to pay attention to these atrocities for change to happen. See below for references
