Canada is “selling” assets in the sense that we’re charging for access to resources that require large amounts of investment, research, and development. These aren’t all transactional, rather these can and should lead to deeper partnerships and long-term exchanges of technology.

The US-Israel-Iran conflict has no sign of ending. I suspect the Middle East will have to re-align behind Iran as the US seems to be experiencing institutional dementia. At this rate, the world will have to cope with the supply shocks from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for much longer than anyone would like.

Canada has the products the world needs to keep industry going. We can make these deals to fill the gap, and these deals will continue to keep Canada as a desirable place to live. We’re also a bulwark to basically the loss of Rule of Law to the United States.

These resources should be nationalized and owned by the public through a crown Corp. Instead of letting U.S. businesses snatch up everything and selling it back to us at a much higher price due to economic conflicts.

And these resources can potentially be used in conflicts like the Palestinian genocide.

At the very least, we should find better economic partners.

Carney is just Harper 2. Harper sold off Alberta oil rights to the Chinese, and when they abandoned the wells, the Ottawa leftists take up the tab.

And where are we supposed to get the trillions needed to get these developed AND the money to build non-market housing?

[-] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 month ago

At the end of the article: tax profits and wealth. I'm hoping this means corporate taxes.

[-] teslasdisciple@lemmy.ca -5 points 1 month ago

So you want higher taxes on big corporations.. like the big corporations at the investment summit.. that you're against.. You don't see a problem here?

[-] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

You asked where the money was coming from, I told you the artical says at the bottom.

I could see an argument that charging companies a tax would dissuade them from coming to Canada. I think this is fine, we can see the general results of race to the bottom in the states.

You've defended what we've been doing since at least the 80s and it hasn't worked well for most Canadians. Theres a well respected book "capital in the 21st century" that details why, and provides remedy: taxes.

Your handle is Tesladecyple, elon is a well known price of shit. Be bettee

You should check out the results in countries that did what Avi wants to do. Spoiler alert: communism is much worse.

Tesla (Nikola Tesla) was a great scientist and an inventor well before that asshat Elon used his name for the Nazi mobile. Educate yourself.

[-] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Taxation is not communism, its not anywhere near communism. I don't know how you could have made that jump.

Yes everyone in 2026 is going to assume you meant the scientist, go back to having sex with your pidgeon.

[-] teslasdisciple@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

Public ownership of everything is communism. Do you even know what he's proposing?

[-] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago

I was talking about the article originally posted, and pointing out to you that Avi did address your concerns that he had ideas how to pay: taxation. Then you said they were communist, when I point out that taxation and communism has nothing to do with each other. you go off into something completely outside of this articles scope.

You also fail to acknowledge anything about the attractiveness of pidgeons.

But fine.

I know that Avi is against selling Canadian airports. I know that Canada ran all its own power services Mich better and more reliablly then post privatization. These things aren't mentioned in the article though.

My bad. There were a lot of people responding to my post, I guess I lost track of what specifically you were focused on.

My main gripe with Avi is that his ONLY solutions are straight out of the communist book. There might be a place for some of that as a small part of a greater plan but that's not what he offers. That's where the whole "communism" thing came from. For the record, I was born in a communist country, so yes I know exactly what it is and how it ends up.

Pigeons suck. Canada geese is where it's at. All that attitude..

[-] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago

My gripe with pp and carney are their only solutions are the same capatilism solutions we've seen for the last 50 years. These have not been working for most citizens. Web got serious wealth inequality, its true we don't have the same planned economy issues that people suffered under communism, but we are headed right there.

Taxation of the wealthy is an economist recommended solution (capital in the 21st century), in this article is exactly what Avi is suggesting, while Carney is advocating for privatization, which I've seen fail again and again.

Can you provide examples about when communists raised taxes on the wealthy and how that failed?

Nicola teslea was famously enamoured with a pidgeon, I was attempting to show you I knew who he was, you should change your handle if you dont want people thinking you simp for elon

[-] teslasdisciple@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago

Your question is just weird. Communists failed in general.

I am aware of Nikola's supposed love affair with a pigeon. I made the goose joke to lighten the mood.

It's pretty obvious that my handle is a reference to the scientist - how the fuck can a person be a disciple of a car??

[-] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

If you can't point to specific instances of failure you should reconsider your stance until you've got the specific instance (really more than one instance). For example its well known that the planned economy lead to mass starvation is well considered a failure of communism. Not being able to point at even one specific failure of communism with respect to taxation is not very convincing when it comes to winning people over to your argument that Avi's proposal to raise money via wealth tax "is communism".

Am I the only person in this comment section that understood you to be a car deciple?

Make companies pay for their fucking share.

They benefit from our infrastructure, education and health-care services to deliver their goods, have specialized employees and healthy workers, but they're not paying into the system. AND they get taxpayer funded welfare all the fucking time.
