I hate this view, it’s not true, at all. The majority of great musicians are normal people. This is a concept people made up to justify liking shitty people. I’ve personally interacted with a ton of my favorite bands and outside of a few assholes they are all cool normal people. Music is a rational thing, there are formulas for what does and does not work, you don’t need to be insane to do cool and innovative shit with music. If you look at most of the people that were insane they burned out, died, or ended up in obscurity. Insanity is a universally detrimental thing to experience, it doesn’t impart any kind of gifts. They’re also usually credit stealing narcissists, like Jim Morrisson, they don’t actually provide anything to the music other than a face and personality.

I'm sorry they weren't able to be themselves around you

I’m sorry you think that you have to be broken in order to be creative, that’s sad as fuck.

yeah, y'all have been describing us as broken and putting us in freak shows for ages. now you pay us to make you look like you have class when you get entertainment. it's really quite amusing from the musician's end.

I am a musician. You don’t get to speak for all of us. It doesn’t make you a special or different kind of person. It’s a very accessible skill to learn and perform. We’re not all petty little broken crybabies, in fact the vast majority are not. Your view says a lot more about you than it says about music and musicians. You’re projecting, not observing.

your comments here notwithstanding?

Feel free to outline where I did that.

as soon as you list your studio albums. i ain't got time for nobodies

That’s a fun way to let me know I’ve won our little debate. Cheers!

you... you don't have any do you internet person pretending to be a musician?

[-] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

First off, that has nothing to do with what I was talking about and plays no validity to the point I was making. You still lost, regardless of where you want to place the goalposts.

Second, your assertive overconfidence is nothing short of delightful. I’m not stupid enough to dox myself for an internet argument. If you’re into doom metal there is a chance you’ve heard my riffs, though, or maybe even seen me on stage if you’re in the western united states.

What are your credentials? Feel free to be vague.

Also, what fucking freak shows are you talking about? Music has been easily the most celebrated and universally enjoyed form of art throughout the entirety of human history. Few people can ever even dream of being loved, cherished, and celebrated as much as musicians. There has never been a point that music wasn’t the defining art form of an era. Did ypu not notice the reaction of the entire world when Dolly passed?

You’ve got a victim complex, man, figure that shit out.
