Drought, crop-destroying frost and water shortages brought about by El Niño are causing alarm in parts of Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea has a central mountain range, with a highest peak of 4500m (14800 ft). While this weather is unusually bad, it's not unusual to see snow and related weather in the mountains, despite the island being located very near the equator.
