Why is this so common, anyway? Why do so many images like this even exist?
I would imagine in many cases for images uploaded to an image host, the host is automatically changing the actual format of the image (this happens to me on some sites tho it is pretty rare in 2026). Or it was saved by someone who took a screenshot of the image instead of saving the actual image.
It's probably because of communism.
Why do PNG images with alpha transparencies exists?
Because when put on a background gif transparencies look dithered since gif transparencies are either on or off. There are no 50% or any other partial opacities.
If you are using gifs for like moving pixel art, that's great but if a designer wants a realistic still images with moving clouds in the background, PNG would be a way better option.
They mean 'fake' transparent pngs.
They want you to pay to remove it
Yeah, it's just the thumbnail or whatever for the real image that truly has transparency. If anything, you should be angry at the search engine for even displaying this as a result when you select that you're querying for images with transparency.
