It is so difficult to find modern electronics without telemetry and ads. Smartphones, laptops, TVs, home routers, security cameras, cars, game consoles, e-readers, projectors, 3D printers, fitness trackers, speakers, and even some printers. Why can’t customers be free from this data collection and advertising? It’s not that we don’t care about it. There simply aren’t many alternatives, and the few that do exist are either more expensive or offer fewer features. Seriously, we need a list of products we can buy without worrying about telemetry or advertising.

For those who want a project and to learn the ins and outs of a 3D printer, the Voron 2.4 and Trident are excellent with a huge supportive community
Of course, that’s also an option. You just have to actively seek out and use open-source projects. That would help them financially anyway. Instead, these penny-pinching customers buy from Chinese companies, which in turn take everything from open-source projects but contribute absolutely nothing themselves. The open-source projects have poured so much money into development that they need to recoup those costs. Which isn’t the case with that crappy Bamboo Labs, for example.
When it comes to laptops, for example, you should have one custom-built for you outside of the “mainstream” brands. Of course, it costs a bit, but then you really know what you’re getting...
For smartphones, for example, there are solutions like the LibrePhone, which is based on open hardware, or open-source solutions like the FairPhone.
I welcome all open projects and am willing to invest a little more in them myself, because I know it will benefit the open-source community one way or another.
So there are open-source solutions as well. However, you have to be willing to either make some compromises or accept slightly higher costs. But open-source and open-hardware projects do exist—there’s no denying that. When people claim they can’t find any, it simply means that they don’t like one of those two aspects and therefore prefer to go with something else. ( With PCs, you just don't have to deal with things like the criminal Microsoft+Intel+NVIDIA dream team... but that's exactly what most people still want. Sure, AMD isn't 100% open either, but it's still better than that criminal trio. )
They are the biggest hypocrites of all. For these consumer junkies, giving things up is simply out of the question.
