All of this was visible 16 km away (10 miles), the biggest concession I can grant here is the disbelief it could actually happen
But happen it did, in the same way the UK shot itself in the foot with Brexit, the USA did even worse and ate the poisonous mushroom. I honestly can't see a way this does not end in WWIII and/or the break up of the USA

If you think about it, the best way to stop a momentous beast isn't to focus on the momentum, it's to focus on the head and where it's going and then the momentum fizzles out on its own. Republican mantra has always been to make government as ineffective as possible so they can look at government and correctly assess that it's ineffective. Previously they worked to starve departments of resources, and they've already done that to the extent that it wasn't even legal. New strategy in Trump and beyond is just to appoint clowns and make the world's biggest clown show in each of their respective agencies. The anti-government shit writes itself when you've got the likes of Malory McMorrow saying, "Medicare for all means someone like Trump would control it, do you really want that?"

Even mediocrity from the cons, while not great, would at least be a lot better than this.
These people all seem to be some of the most maliciously stupid and/or unqualified that they could find. If they have any capability, it's put to the task of carrying out evil: shitheel psychopaths like Vought and Miller as a for-instance.
When they don't even have any capability they end up like Brainwormz here. A guy who is supposed to be looking out for health who looks and sounds terrible, has strange hobbies (dead whale heads, anyone? How about a bear carcass?) and even stranger beliefs - who needs that germ theory of disease, amirite - and says absolutely crazy shit - he can spot mitochondrial damage, talks about the "vaccine injured", yells at reporter that she is not a scientist when he obviously has net negative credentials, and blurts out shit about chemtrails.
At least someone who was mediocre would probably tend to just agree with experts, vs. think they know better.
In my life, I have found that, the more ignorant someone is, the deeper their malice can get. We should really live in a society where being ignorant is as shameful as pooping your pants in public
I would think an awful lot would change if the business model around most media (news, movies, TV) were different.
But, as it is, I think most media really tip-toes around things that may make the ignorant uncomfortable, since they want to sell soap and boner pills to those people as well. Zeus forbid those people were to be told their beliefs were wrong.
Allowing advertising during the news really broke everything.
It turned into chasing viewership for revenue instead of providing the national service that being granted a broadcasting license required in return.
If we get through this administration as a country, I just wanna stay alive long enough to see all the documentaries making fun of this bat shit crazy stuff. My fear is this is now the baseline as we hurl to the more prophetic future of Idiocracy.

I put things like this in the same category as renaming Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico, something absurd to keep the attention off the real harm being done. Even if they made a declaration that planes are all dumping stuff to turn the frogs gay or whatever tommorow, the burocratic effort to do anything with it would take well beyond any of these loon's tenure and then be dumped directly after.
