Being 20 rule (lemmy.nz)

Oh god I'm 20...maybe it really is because of my age 😆
Maybe my age is to blame. It's not my fault I'm this way! /s

Yes, I'm actually 20 😔

Nonsense, E will work for you. I started at 19 and it's kinda working. I don't know your situation, but I'm rooting for you 🩷

May I ask how old you are? You don't have to answer. I'm just curious

19 and soon 20. It's just scary thinking about it not working as good as on a person who's still growing.

Nah, you're fine. I started HRT at 19 and 10 months. I started seeking it out the official way 6 months prior. Long wait times...
At the beginning, I thought I had it good. I thought I had started super early, that I was gonna get super lucky, that my pelvis would widen...well, the dysphoria kicked in. I started seeing all the damage that T has done to me. The damage that is irreversible. And I didn't feel so lucky anymore, with people here that started at 17, 16 or earlier.

But I'll tell you this. I don't regret starting. Not even a little bit. The only thing I regret is not starting earlier. And so, I guess I'm actually glad I started when I did. I'm glad I didn't put it off by years and regret it later. And I'm absolutely loving what HRT has been doing for me. In the first couple of months, I was damn sure it was the right thing for me. Super smooth skin, man musk gone, greatly decreased erections, much less oily skin and hair and tiny breast buds, the start of actual, real girl boobs...this is me.

I can't tell you if you want it or not. I really can't. But, I can recommend starting as soon as you can. Repressing and putting it off is unfortunately super common for trans people, but it's not ideal. The regret later on is crushing. I could have started at 14 and it's the biggest regret of my life that I didn't...
And please don't fall into the trap of "I won't pass, so what's the point?". Nobody knows if you will pass or not and frankly, it's not the most important thing in the world. Transitioning will alleviate dysphoria and make you more comfortable in your own body. It will make your body...more you. I know I won't pass. Still, I'm never stopping HRT, I'd literally rather die. And you might think you won't pass now, but repressing and waiting to start won't solve that, in fact, it will only make it worse. There will be more years of irreversible T damage done to your body. And, at least for me...that's existentially crushing.
You're actually quite early. You're totally fine 💜

You'll figure it out 🩷
Best of luck!
I'm here if you need anything.

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
