I'm poor, so I qualify for the accommodation supplement. I'm trying to find a better job, but it's dead out there.

My accommodation supplement was suspended in May, pending income confirmation. I gave them everything at my next appointment in June.

JUNE.

I'm still waiting for it to be reinstated. Every time I ring, they say they've made an enquiry to processing, but they haven't replied.

FOUR MONTHS, and I'm still waiting. Apparently, there is no means of communication between departments. No one can just call a supervisor, find out whose desk it's sitting on, and get a direct answer as to why it's not being done.

I just needed to vent because I'm bashing my head against a wall here.

Every government department is dealing with the fallout of being told to cut spending and deliver more. And WINZ has the additional issue of a bunch of problems caused by the government rushing legislation through under urgency to skip the select committee stage where it's reviewed and checked if there are problems.

But with that said, my experience with WINZ is that they actively try to make it hard. I think this is supposed to discourage people from using them for support.

No joke, one of the main reasons I want a UBI is so we can get rid of WINZ as a whole.
