30MF Dragonia Knight

Fantastic kit. The "silhouette"/base body looks good by itself, but once you put on the armor it turns into one of the coolest kits I've assembled.

My main complaint with this whole line (so far) is that I have not been able to make the eyes "glow" with silver paint behind the clear plastic.

Nice, I've really liked the look of the armored core models so that's good to know. I'll probably try one of hose next.

Currently working on this one. https://www.gundamplanet.com/collections/high-grade-gunpla/products/hgag-gundam-age-fx

@JigglySackles Oh nice. I kept seeing that in a couple stores near me for a bit, but I ended up buying the MG AGE-1 Normal instead. I don't have any HG AGE kits yet.

For the AC6 kits, the only one I am cautious to recommend is the Nachtreiher/Steel Haze. The feet and ankles are quite brittle, although the result looks fantastic.

Lol I could see those being very delicate. It's got tiny chicken legs! But they do look reaaaally cool once assembled.

Do you do any paintwork? I'm wanting to learn airbrushing eventually.

@JigglySackles I have done one (1) fully painted custom, and it was an Entry Grade RX-93 Nu Gundam. It was such a headache (even with an airbrush) that I decided that probably wasn't where I wanted to spend my time yet. When I use paint now, it tends to be coloring in missing details Bandai didn't mold into plastic. This usually involves brush painting, but every so often I'll break the airbrush out and spend 30+ minutes masking the few pieces I'm trying to "correct".

Right on, that's cool. It definitely seems difficult to do which is why I've put it off for so long. Lol I have a Xenogears kit that I've wanted to put together but I don't think I'll be able to paint it any time soon, and I can't afford the rate the one guy I know charges for painting.

What'd you do to learn?

[-] augus@ani.social 2 points 1 week ago

Youtube and practice (for both the airbrushing and the brush painting). And even then, I would say I still don't know a lot about it (definitely deficient in that practice part).

Some specific videos I watched were:

For brush painting, I essentially transferred skills I learned for miniature painting, and any good video for that will help you with the other. Mr. Hobby Gundam Color paints (semi-gloss) tend to dry to a similar gloss as Bandai's plastic, so I thin those with either a bit of Isopropyl alcohol, Mr. Hobby Acrysion Thinner, or Mr. Color Leveling Thinner.

That's fantastic, thanks for the links!

@JigglySackles This is my custom nu (didn't turn out as different color-wise as I would have liked):

And here's a recent kit I painted some small color corrections on (HG Barbatos Lupus Rex):

Niiiiice! Both of those are awesome but I really like the look of that Nu. That more matte look works really well.
