!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

MODERATORS
Still an untrustworthy partner who is rotten at the core.
I think of them more like the wife of an abusive stepfather.
Like, they don't like what's happening, and they have the power to put an end to it, but it would be hard.
It would be a choice they'd have to make, and they'd have to live with the consequences, and they can't quite convince themselves to do what they have to do in order to protect their kid.
They justify it to themselves saying that many times are good, and overlook the times where it's horribly, horribly bad.
And I feel like the only way to solve the problem is for the kid to grow up and leave them behind, but there are many kids, and they are not in agreement as to how to do it, or if it's even bad in the first place.
100% agree. There is a proper way to solve this. Allowing conservatives to continue to live among us will always result in oppression and violence. Progressive people just don't have the motivation to do what's actually needed to cure this disease. We had our chance in 1865 and blew it. We let them live. They would have never let us live if they had won the civil war. But we showed them mercy and now we have concentration camps and a gestapo.
If we don't properly eliminate the threat, it will just return again and again. Since we refuse to extermninate our infestation, the rest of the world needs to spend this time arming up and preparing to do what's needed when the conservatives slither back into power. It will happen sooner than you think, and next time it will be much worse.
Conservatives will never stop and we will never do the right thing by eliminating them. We are sick with a disease that we refuse to cure. Be ready for this to keep happening.
It's a lot simpler than that. If we stand up for ourselves we get shot.
