Basically, wait and see
If Dems actually get into action and go full Mamdani - exciting and inspiring, finally a massive hit to the authoritarian evil.
If they keep on giving up every bit of ground - not so much.

Until we actually get rid of the problem, no one should trust us. As long as conservatives continue to live, they will work hard to oppress everyone around them. Allowing the traitors to live in 1865 led to this. Unless we finish Sherman's work, conservatives will slither right back into power, and next time it will be MUCH worse.
We need to properly finish our civil war and completely cleanse our house of the cockroaches that cause fascism. And that's just the first step in earning the trust of our former allies.
Still hell on Earth
so uh what do you think of the international criminal court
People remember the actions of a country, not of a leader
Keep it up for a few decades and then we'll talk
First I'd like to thank you for voting for the right choice of the two sides that you can choose from. Well done.
Then.. I'd like to continue shaming USA for having such a close election. It might be the most clear election in recent history, but it should still not be this close. There obviously is a very large number of people in USA who are still dangerous idiots.
Putting a mark correctly on a ballot is just not going to cut it. I need to see action taken to redeem the many years of doing wrong.
I will continue boycotting products from USA until the day they no longer put children and other innocent people in concentration camps and until they come up to speed on at least attempting to save the climate from the obscene overconsumption and destruction that their idiotic lifestyle causes.
I hope to see a democratic president at the next election and I hope the democrats will finally get the power and clarity to start collaboration with the rest of the world.
Finally I would like to thank the republicans for showing the world and the population of USA that american exceptionalism does in fact not work.
No change, it's going to take a long time to claw back International relations.
Same as last year and all the decades before it. Inconsistent, untrustworthy, and overwhelmingly self serving.
I can't speak for the whole of Canada, let alone the world, but as far as I'm concerned as long as one monstrous Republican shill still draws breath and sits in Congress, it will never be safe to trust America. If it's so easy for America to fall to fascism once, it can and will fall again until there is massive systemic reform. It will be a generation before people like me are willing to put the past behind us. You are still engaged in illegal wars, holding foreign heads of state hostage, keeping refugees in internment camps and every masked ice agent still walks freely on your streets.
Talk to me when the Dems actually do something about the incalculable harm America has done to the world. Boycott, divest, and sanction, for all genocidal rogue states, America included.
As an American, I agree 100%.
Like we did 3 days ago,
One change for a day doesn't prove a thing
Don't trust us.
We put this fuckface in power twice, and did absolutely nothing effective to stop him for TWO YEARS of his second round, even with the countless easily impeachable offenses he committed and bragged about on public television.
Make that trust need to be earned back.
I get the impression that a lot of Americans think that Trump merely ruffled some feathers on the international scene, and that a charm offensive will set things right once he's gone.
From the outside, we watched you elect Trump twice, and have no reason to believe that the GOP won't finish what he started. We've seen that Americans need to be pushed to the absolute brink before leaning into civic duty and voting. That's fine and well, except for the fact that they're a superpower, and the rest of the planet can suffer mightily, while Americans put in suboptimal effort into holding their government accountable.
Until proven otherwise, the United States is always one election cycle away of picking up right where the Trump regime left off.
The above is the undercurrent of my thoughts when getting into the profound fuckover inflicted on my country, while the entirety of the GOP went along with it gleefully.
As an American, I agree 100%. We had a civil war several generations ago and the progressive side showed empathy to the conservative side. Instead of finishing them off as we should have, we allowed them to live. That was a deadly mistake on our part. Conservatives despise empathy and would never show that to us if the tables were reversed. They've been rallying for a proper end to our civil war since 1865.
As long as we allow conservatives to continue to exist here, they will continue to cause harm to everyone around them. When they inevitably hold national power again, they will cause harm to everyone around the world again. They truly are pure evil.
It's not an illusion or a mistake. All conservatives are genuinely evil at their core. As long as we continue to show them mercy, they will continue to oppress and kill everyone they are able. It's hard-coded into their DNA. We need to finish our civil war properly, or this infestation will continue to grow generation upon generation.
Never, ever trust us as long as conservatives continue to live here. We are infected with a disease long overdue for a cure.
The GOP barely exists now, because of Trump. This used to be a soft power game, lots of behind the scene back room deals. Obama even said corruption under Trump was better than before him because it was public, and in my opinion being done by incompetent idiots where before it was private and being done by very smart and very ruthless men. All of the real GOP has been slowly pushed out since the tea party came to power, if Europe was serious they’d be pointing to the tea party not Trump but that’s neither here nor there. Now it’s just a bunch of obviously stupid obviously incapable corporate puppets clearly unable to keep up the illusion that keeps the money faucets running. The GOP died and what’s left is eating its self. The real issue here is how obviously weak our left wing is, it doesn’t matter if our Conservative Party implodes if our “liberal” party can’t constitute something meaningful and long lasting. We need money out of politics now or the right will rise from the ashes cloaked in back room deals and run by ruthless competent men again.
I would say that Trump exists BECAUSE of the GOP.
Reagan existed BECAUSE of the GOP.
W Bush existed BECAUSE of the GOP.
We are at the apex of the Republican utopia, purchased by the rich, for the rich, where anything goes IF you are rich and the managed dolts keep cheering it on.
This is a minor disruption for the ruling elite.
Nothing is going to change behind the scenes because really nothing has changed.
As a Canadian, its a good start, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll start buying American products again when you start putting your money where you mouth is.
The Tarrifs and cheetos need to go as a start, but you've really lost a lot of respect and trust around the world, and that's gonna take a lot to get back.
Still an untrustworthy partner who is rotten at the core.
I think of them more like the wife of an abusive stepfather.
Like, they don't like what's happening, and they have the power to put an end to it, but it would be hard.
It would be a choice they'd have to make, and they'd have to live with the consequences, and they can't quite convince themselves to do what they have to do in order to protect their kid.
They justify it to themselves saying that many times are good, and overlook the times where it's horribly, horribly bad.
And I feel like the only way to solve the problem is for the kid to grow up and leave them behind, but there are many kids, and they are not in agreement as to how to do it, or if it's even bad in the first place.
100% agree. There is a proper way to solve this. Allowing conservatives to continue to live among us will always result in oppression and violence. Progressive people just don't have the motivation to do what's actually needed to cure this disease. We had our chance in 1865 and blew it. We let them live. They would have never let us live if they had won the civil war. But we showed them mercy and now we have concentration camps and a gestapo.
If we don't properly eliminate the threat, it will just return again and again. Since we refuse to extermninate our infestation, the rest of the world needs to spend this time arming up and preparing to do what's needed when the conservatives slither back into power. It will happen sooner than you think, and next time it will be much worse.
Conservatives will never stop and we will never do the right thing by eliminating them. We are sick with a disease that we refuse to cure. Be ready for this to keep happening.
It's a lot simpler than that. If we stand up for ourselves we get shot.
Trump released the floodgates for conservatism and bigoted views. Trump gave my politicians, as a Canadian, an excuse to act against all social and environmental welfare in the name of this fucking ridiculous trade war. The democrats aren't going to do shit to reverse the damage that's been done in my country.
While I'm happy that people might suffer less in the US (I won't hold my breath), the apathy, complacency, and outright hatred that created this situation has spread like a fucking virus and I will not forgive for that.
It's a bit early, isn't it? Their election's only just been.
None of it matters if Schumer and Jefferies keep leadership
None of it matters if the Democrats don't make meaningful change.
None of it matters if people change their minds in 2 years and go right back to red.
It will take a lot longer than 1 week for the world to warm up to America again.
I agree with your points and I'm also not American. Just prefacing to make clear I'm not arguing, just trying to spread hope. I saw a petition yesterday morning that was already at half a million signatures demanding Jeffries not be made speaker. The speed it grew indicates to me there's weight behind it. Kinda like posts, comments, and upvotes; there are way more lurkers who are agreeing silently. (I'm not an LLM, I just like semicolons. Even if I'm not always 100% sure I've used it correctly).
Until the Epstein class is in prison, no difference.
It's been 3 minutes, what are you even talking about
Sorry, I searched, what is DIC?
Dick in chief probably or something like that. In any case a derogatory way of referring to trump.
Wow. I would have been right. I was thinking Dickhead in Charge.
We're a schizophrenic in a period of lucidity. That doesn't mean you should trust us around the sharp objects.
We have spent years demeaning and undermining our allies, you don't just get that trust back because of one day of voting
Nothing changed. Talk again in 2,5y and see if you keep it up.
Yes we are working on it, but Americans need to constantly tell their reps what they want and VOTE in future elections. Or the pendulum will just swing back to the right again in 2-4 years.
I still wouldn't trust them, glad to see the Trumpists fail but I feel like Trump is more of a symptom.
American here: He is.
America has a systemic issue, they were handed the tools to start fixing it. Abolishing the electoral college should be doable now for example. Also lying to congressional committees should carry a penalty.
I’ll see after the next presidential election if they’re worth forgiving.
We'll talk in a few decades. Until then, don't call us, we'll call you.
Well, this has now happened once, now we know it could happen again. Trust has been broken.
Once? Trump was elected twice.
George Bush Jr. started an illegal war against Iraq, and claimed that if you aren't with us, you are against us. He too was both war mongering and hostile towards allies.
Reagan stood for the worst weapons race of the cold war, and was corrupt with the Iran Contra affair, and he made many people very afraid of nuclear war.
Nixon too was a war criminal with what USA did in Vietnam, his first order was to increase war activity in Vietnam, and he and Kissinger decidedly sabotaged peace talks.
This didn't happen once, there is a clear pattern, and that pattern points towards the next Republican president will likely be even worse.
I won't lie, there's only a very moderate sigh of relief for me personally.
Trump will be a lame duck now, so the messes he can make will be fewer.
But I'm not sure I trust the American people quite yet. They still elected Trump twice.
As a European, I also don't think we can return to business as usual, because USA is still an unreliable partner.
Even a new relatively good president in the next presidential election will not change that.
Nixon, Reagan, Bush, Bush Jr. 2 times, and now Trump 2 times, paints a pretty horrible picture of American politics.
And even Obama was a war criminal, even though he was better than average, and very liked in Europe. He was not the humanitarian he painted himself as in his speeches. He was still all about American exceptionalism.
So I think we will have to wait about 12 years to know if USA is on a better path or not. Until then extreme caution is recommended.
No difference. It doesn't matter who you have in charge of one part of your gov they all answer to the same money masters.
The same fascist laws will be passed and none will be repealed.
The dnc leadership, the neo-liberals, are definitely slaves to the same masters, but you absolutely can’t earnestly say with evidence that both parties pass the same fascist policies. Pretending or claiming they are the same after the Trump presidencies shows immediately the claimant is either ignorant and just parrots divisive rhetoric they read on edgy social media outlets, or they’re actively pushing destructive narratives to divide what has been shown to be a very cohesive movement when it needed to be. Both parties do not appoint the same quality Supreme Court justices, they don’t pass the same types of laws, the presidents don’t behave the same or treat people the same. Are there problems with both? Absolutely, big ones. But they are not the same, that’s obvious to anyone with two brain cells these days.
"in control"? LMAO.
The world is ~9B people. How should anyone know what they all think? However, I can tell you what I think: I hope he also catches Incurable Anal Itch.
Oh honey...
