Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

That is awesome, what type of phone are you running this on?

It's a Galaxy Fold 4, so the large screen and 4:3ish aspect ratio really suits well for stuff like this. :)

Ok now I am very interested, I have a ZF4. Is this a full Linux install?

Yes, but it's not running natively, it runs in a chroot (proot) on top of Android. No actual root required, runs all in userspace.

But don't let the discourage you cause it actually works pretty well under Termux X11 - it's way better than the old and clunky VNC method because here you're interacting with an actual X11 display, with smooth graphics and full audio support. If you load up Wine, you can even play full-fledged Windows games! Older games like Skyrim run pretty well on the Fold 4.

proot-distro is what you wanna look up, but if you're impatient, you can run this script to set up a minimal XFCE desktop without any fuss. But first you'll need to install Termux (but not the X11 app) from F-Droid - don't use the one on the Play Store as that's been abandoned.

I have termux installed already.....It never occurred to me to do this to my phone....maybe I'll get a bit of time over the next few weeks to play around with it
