Yeah a lot of people here are taking this weirdly personally. I mean the whole thing is terrible and innocent people are getting hurt, but also the whole situation is the result of complex geopolitics going back to WWI and even earlier. It's basically a multi-generational family domestic.
It feels to me like antisemites and islamophobics here in NZ are just super turned on by the conflict, as well as there being a big contingent who don't know the long history and only see what's happening right now and they think they need to pick a side, like it's football teams or something. And then you end up with people here in NZ needing police intervention because they're so worked up about it.
