Lemmy in Te Wai Pounamu (self.southisland)

Yo! I'm from the other island (the better one if I'm honest).

I was wondering if changing the display name of each local Lemmy is palatable to the people from there.

This would not change the URL, and would still be searchable with it's anglophone alias.

So... what are your thoughts on a new display name to Te Wai Pounamu or Te Waipounamu before you get too used to the current one?

Or as I said, I'm an imposter so perhaps mu suggestion is not the best or even the second best one.

Edit: I have no skin in the game so if y'all reach a consensus, or want to progress this further reach out to a friendly admin

Don't worry, I'm watching. Thanks for doing this!

Do we have opinions on punctuation?

  • Te Wai Pounamu (South Island)
  • Te Wai Pounamu | South Island
  • Te Wai Pounamu / South Island

(that last one I'm adding myself, inspired by Aoraki / Mt Cook)

IMO the last one is the most grammatically / syntactically correct.

If the third one is a format already in use them it makes sense to go with it. I think the South Island gets a bit lost/overlooked in brackets.

I have no strong opinion, but I like the / since even just searching South Island comes up with that!
