We have clients that are clients of clients, and may be direct clients in some other aspect.
We host services for these entities.
That is all fine until they don't pay us.

When they don't pay us, there are multiple rounds of contacting someone who will contact someone who will contact someone. Someday.

Sometimes, someday does not arrive.
At that point, we conduct the Scream Test.

The essence of the Scream Test is:

• This thing is theoretically not needed.
• Let's turn it off.
• And see who screams?

We shut down some stuff today. Waiting on the cacophony...

Hi there! I recently volunteered to mod this semi-abandoned comm. I'm Doubting Thomas, and I'm here for the music.

I feel music should be an inclusive thing, and I love the original mod's open attitude. I love heavy, spacey rock. To be clear, I've smoked a lot of pot in my life, but drugs have nothing to do with the music. When I was in school, 'stoners' were the long-hair kids smoking cigarettes across the street. I was one of them. For now, 'stoner rock' is whatever music (made by humans) that you think it is.

I would love some help! I really want a new header graphic. The current one is ... well its cool and all, but I'm not fond of it. I'm a terrible but prolific digital artist. If someone wants to make a new graphic, it will probably be better than my work. Ping me with ideas or submissions. No AI.

Concerts! That's what its all about, right? I want to hear about concerts you've been to. I want to write about tours coming up or ongoing. Hell, I want to go to more shows.

I hope to do a few interviews. I don't really have the setup for this yet. I should get a better mic and a plan together before I try. But if there's any interest in interviews, let me know!

We know now that in the early years of the 20th century, this world was being watched, by intelligences, greater than Man.

The key to a good stoner rock album is a hell of a hook on that first song. GIÖBIA delivers with their 2015 release, Magnifier. This is space rock. Think Hawkwind with better equipment and a more modern sensibility, but just as wild and out there.

This is GIÖBIA's best album. They've got a lot of other good stuff. Been around forever.
I would also recommend their Night Sounds and Acid Disorder albums.

It has subscribers, I'm not the only one there, but it's been a bit stagnant. I think it could use a cleanup, maybe people might be more interested in it if there was more going on.

I messaged them, and was unsurprised to get no reply.

I expect this to be an uncontroversial request. I clearly use the comm, and its clearly abandoned.

I've been listening to Beyond The Beyond nonstop for a couple weeks. (Edit: Months later, I still do this to annoy the neighbors. This album will play 10 times before I change it.)

The Cosmic Dead play space rock that hits some slightly psycho spaces like Far Flung, with a more modern and trippy soundscape like Giobia.

Cosmic Dead actually have done a split with Giobia.
I came across them because they are on the HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS Records label, like a damn good portion of the best Stoner Rock bands in Europe.

Although new to me, they are not at all new, rockin since 2010.

Put it on repeat.

I just got two of these. Fully loaded. Disks, sleds, rails.
Fiber cards + 4 onboard NICs and 4 more on another card.
Its a dual proc board with a bunch of ram slots. (I think its Sandybridge procs, DDR3.)

I got them because they were at a remote colo, and they crashed a bunch of times.
They cost us more downtime than they were worth.
I happened to be in town and made my boss an offer.
He didn't have to pay for e-waste fees, and I removed his problem for the low, low cost of $0.

So now they are my problem.
I don't need 200 TB of redundant storage. I'm gonna shop em out and sell em.
No idea if the dual 920 watt psu will blow my apt breakers. Takes a lot of juice to spin 20 hdds.

So far, I've hauled them across half the US, up my stairs, and admired them.
I found a youtuber 'Art of the Server' with some helpful vids. Watched a bunch.
No real idea what I'm doing next.

I've configured them several times in the past. They always died after months of steady service.
Dead disks, etc. Maybe bad controllers?
A fault that intermittent is hard to diagnose, but they are in front of me now.
I can do whatever I need to. These are complicated devices.
My original plan of teardown and rebuild seems unwise now.

I'm interested in any practical feedback.

It was actually not too traumatic. At my kitchen sink, nice plastic bag handy. Paper towels. All clean.

I blasted through the last questions. Time closed on question 72.
The lablet section must have had a lot of point value. I spent an hour on them, got em right. Got all the subnetting shit. Think I nailed IPv6.

I decided to get my CCNA last summer after losing out on a senior role because I didn't have it. I signed up for the free CCST training and completed Network and Cybersecurity, tested in January.

I used a bunch of other Cisco resources and some 3rd party training to continue on. I just completed all the coursework.

Got 80% on a practice test today.
I got every subnetting, binary, or hex question correct.
Fuk ya. And I have a list of shit to review.

I'm an old fukin man. I wasn't sure if I was still sharp enough.
2 weeks from now. I'm gonna pass this test.

This little code snip can help you out in a pinch.
Try this if you have an unstable server with running guests and reboot is not an option.

service pve-cluster restart && service pvedaemon restart && service pvestatd restart && service pveproxy restart

If you do it in the shell window, it will disconnect the shell, but seems to complete the command just fine.
You should see the nodes briefly grey out and come back.

I've read that you need to reset all of those, in that order. See the linked wiki article for more info.

I downloaded the CommodoreOS3-20250422_0209.iso when it was released. The file is 37 GB. HyperV didn't recognize it as an ISO, and I just didn't put any further work into getting it going. I still have this monster ISO just sitting there, almost a year later.

Did anyone get it installed? They do have video about the initial experience right there on the download page. It sounds pretty unique.
