Welp, why is Mozilla gradually turning into a shit-show? They're still better than Google and Microsoft and Brave but :(.

Once upon a time, people at Mozilla were really good at highlighting how browsers are also known as "user agents". They do what users want them to do. Or at least they used to do that.

I can somewhat understand why they do it though — they are extremely worried about the Google search-box deal not renewing or even expiring prematurely.

One thing that's symptomatic for anti-GDPR sentiment in general are "cookie banner" discussions. As if the EU had ever told anyone they need cookie banners! You absolutely don't need them if you're not randomly throwing around data. And people should know better, just from seeing titles on said cookie banners like "Your privacy is important to us and our 1234 partners" (and that's not even exaggerated!). In addition, "cookie banner" is a misnomer too, as the thing you're really setting up is not cookie behavior but data-spreading behavior.

About a year ago, my grandpa experienced wondrous symptoms. So he went to the hospital. The doctor wasn't sure what was wrong with him at first, so he had to stay for multiple days. After much discussing about possible causes, it turns out he'd eaten a piece of some random game that another family member brought along, and that he'd let thaw and then had refrozen it. That allowed the doctors to treat him successfully on, I believe, day 3.

After leaving the hospital, he still wasn't sure of the cause though — and you can't just throw away perfectly good meat!; so he ate another piece of the defrosted game and, no surprise, went to hospital again. This time around, the diagnosis was a lot easier though.

That's not a good way to put it imo, because it presages a future that might not and hopefully won't happen.

What's true is that "conservatives" (CDU/CSU) and "libertarians" (FDP) almost unanimously voted for a populist, useless, unhelpful, racist act that goes both against the German constitution and against EU rules. They're their repeating historic mistakes, building their majority on the votes of right-wing extremists (Afd). And they're planning to do it again on Friday.

And it was completely unnecessary too. There's no rational power reasoning for the act. Besides the content being worse than useless, enacting it this way is hurting rather than helping CDU's chances, as it drives people either further right ("the Afd were right all along!!") or further left/center ("I don't want to vote for a party working with nazis/hurting the constitution").

Tl;dr: We are fucked.

No, we are not yet h*cked. Afd was polling at 22% in the beginning of 2024, and they lost 8 percentage points in a matter of months, because people took to the streets to form some of the largest protests Germany has seen. Yes, they've gained again but there's at least a chance that the party is banned [in the near future].

That's horrible and a conflict of interest too (as they're making themselves dependent on a company they are regularly fining for billons of euros) but also totally normal, as almost every single public institution is on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp,...

Almost like there is a coordinated campaign by gas & oil lobbyists across the globe. Curious.

(Greetings from Germany where the government had the goal of helping 500k heat pumps get installed in 2024. People installed 200k heat pumps, but 500k gas/oil furnaces. This follows a solid year 2022/2023 of concentrated disinformation campaigns about heat pumps.)

Tldr, the headline makes it sound as if Germany is outright refusing to arrest Netanyahu right now. That headline is clickbait and only partially right:

• 1 German government spokesperson gave a muddied non-response, questioning the authority of the ICC
• There is no Netanyahu or Gallant visit planned
• The current German government is on its way out (although the likelihood of a harder stance on Israel under a new government is slim)

The headline is completely misleading: Since Brexit, British books usually arrive about a week late in the EU due to border checks.

(As an aside: One of the reasons I trusted a semi-proprietary hosted app like Bitwarden at all was that Vaultwarden exists, theoretically allowing me to move there if necessary.)
