  1. Your website frustrates copy and paste. That's kinda lame, dude.

  2. Labels sounds like plus-addressing with extra steps.

it's not like dual citizenship isn't absolutely normal

The United States doesn’t recognize dual citizenship. When you’re naturalized, you must give up your citizenship to any other country.

Is that recent? The number of dual American citizens I know in I.T is staggering.

It's neat how that relates so very little to voting.

So they admit it was all about scaring the peasants?

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

If the US were civilized, you'd just get a free government ID as a part of, idk, being a citizen.

Compared with what? Which other countries give you a free ID?

The US and Brazil do not have an extradition treaty

You mean, other than the 1961 one? It was ratified in like '64, and should still be running.

Ivory-tower elitism, really.

Lay-offs are stressful. I worked at SCO during IBM's brutal propaganda campaign in response to our accusation of code rape, where real and imagined problems were amplified to vast overstatement. Monthly all-hands meetings were called Tribal Council because, like the Survivor TV show, new at the time, groups of people got abruptly voted off the proverbial island without preparation or warning. The numbering of lay-offs quit when it was even too much for dark humour. The undercurrent of stress and the awareness of code rot is a real thing.

The lack of sleep seemed common for us too. It was so bad - and American mercenary healthcare was so cruel - that worrying about everything soon became its own issue. I abandoned my H1B and came home, having worked from home since 9/11 provoked a move that could just be extended farther. We were all burned-out, severely so, with the overwork to cover all the proverbial bases vying with survivor's guilt in a contest to see which behaviour is more ruinous.

I say all that to say that I lived through similarly crushing worry and stress and self-damage. Everything you're feeling, lots of us felt similarly (while I'm a hetero white male non-trans and the privilege grass should be just so green on this side of the fence), and it's absolutely a health risk that will compound your concern if you're in America with that mercenary healthcare system.

The question is, as I've asked friends with 20 years in a specialized field also going on 2 years without a job, what's the plan-B if you leave the tech world? What can you do that is good for both the spirit and the rent?

Do not talk down on me condescendingly.

I'm not reading any condescension in the comment to which you're replying. I'm reading some suggestion that you're misinterpreting the modlog's message. And here I start to wonder whether you're misinterpreting the comment to which you're replying. And you're admonishing the good-faith commenter in an aggressive and mildly menacing manner.

There's a trend emerging, and it strongly suggests that a day without commenting would really help you.

The Clicks Communicator BB clone looks to have a Jack. It's in the running!!

... is the subject of an incomplete sentence.

I found this ironic.

I don't need research into the issue, as I'm sure I did at least half of whatever got me banned. I just wanted to point out the irony, is all.

Pay-wall link: https://globalnews.ca/news/9938774/air-canada-vomit-seat-passenger-apology/

Air Canada has apologized to customers who were allegedly escorted off a plane for refusing to sit in a chair covered with vomit for the duration of their over four-hour flight.

The airline issued a statement after a viral Facebook post claimed two as-yet unidentified female flyers were told there was nothing to be done about the visible vomit on their soiled seats.

Oh! AirCanada!

We've been using Yum (and now its "differenter name is betterer" dnf) for what, 20 years?

error: rpmdb: BDB0113 Thread/process 13664/139968089683776 failed: BDB1507 Thread died in Berkeley DB library
error: db5 error(-30973) from dbenv->failchk: BDB0087 DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
error: cannot open Packages index using db5 - (-30973)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm

You think we'll ever get someone with a clue to fix this? Will RedHat going all IBM about source code help?

Okay, so what's with Gitlab and ServiceNow getting so fat on whitespace that they no longer fit in half a 1920x1200 screen properly?

What's the standard width that actual professional webdevs are building toward? Is there a standard, or like app dependendencies are they back to pre-y2k "moar moar nom nom" methodologies?

Look. It happens a few times a week, where reps in 3 time-zones will be fucked by an interruption to azure services like o341 or sharepoint (we don't do VMs in azure; not secure enough).

I'm used to shadenfreuding Reddit over that, or at least finding it's not just our company firewall and VPN taking the Proverbial.

Is there a sub I can join to get the topical junk like that? I'm too indolent - like a fox! - to go to twitter (or ideally mastodon) for a more suitable location; but will I find it there if I do? Can it be here too?

I didn't find this yet, but please downvote to hell itself and drop a link to the proper prior post in comments if you find it.

In here, eventually, are some comments from the Fedora project leader about how RHEL trying to kill open access to source and packaging source code is potentially going to affect Fedora, RedHat's ginger adopted stepchild which it usually overlooks.

I must say there's a LOT to wait through and one of them has a mic with a bad level at times, and I didn't sit all the way through. Tell me if I've been scammed, but I thought this may have value and I'm hoping to hear confirmation of that too.

Enjoy? Or flame me. Happy Friday.
