The problem with treating addiction like a health issue is that the US does not treat its health issues.
No one cares about his death, not even the people on his side. That won't change even if we make fun of him, because no one cares if we make fun of him either. He's essentially irrelevant. That's why people keep getting court settlements for being fired.
But if the author translates their post into English, then French speakers still have to translate it back. The same problem happens.
No matter what you do, some people can't read what you post. Your choice is who you want to read it, and they probably don't care if Anglophones can read their post.
Exposure therapy works on phobias, that's why they're triggered by specific and uncommon things. If you're exposed to the tiny holes in paper towels all the time, they'll bother you less and less until eventually they might not even bother you at all.
I'm sure if I interacted with lotus seed pods all the time they wouldn't make me want to vomit and scratch my skin off.
just less of them
That's not a trivial problem. There will still be some programmers, but everyone will be competing for a shrinking number of jobs.
That's not a future with a stable career. That's a future where you're going to have to fight for the rest of your life to keep a job.
Unless the LLM hype craze dies down and they realize "oh actually we can't replace people yet" and they start hiring again.
Poor white people, they have it so hard. 😞
It's scaremongering, just like the bullshit "AI BROKE CONTAINMENT" stories.
Hucksters do this to make their technology seem a lot more impressive than it actually is. She's making wild and stupid claims about how great AI is and how easy it will be to train it to take everyone's jobs because she's selling a product. It's all bullshit.
We're all perfectly capable of using translation software. 🤷♀️
If vibe coding remains the norm and is actually sustainable, there won't be a reliable career. You'll be weavers being put out of work by the autoloom. You're worthless to them. What can you do that someone with six weeks (or less) of training can't?
Honestly, I'm amazed opposition to Israel was as high as it was before the war on Iran. The genocide had negligible impact on fuel prices, food prices, employment, or any direct material thing in the lives of yankees. Yet, they hated it. It was really heartening!
It gives me hope that, maybe, yankees aren't solely motivated by gas jumping 40 cents in the past week.
Law is class power.

I don't think treating addiction like a health issue implies some libertine approach to drugs, there's plenty of room for regulation.
The real problem is that allowing addictive drugs to proliferate in a society where a large percentage of the population wants to die is a good way to collapse the economy. Why keep suffering when there's a way out?
