Also there are so many dialects with heavy variables that it's entirely possible to get a group of people all speaking english who can't understand each other. Throw someone with a thick Louisiana Cajun accent, a West Country dude, and Nevada hick into a room together and I don't think they'd understand each other. Maybe the hick could understand the West Countryman but that'd be about where it'd end.
Hell even the delivery along routes issue is one that can and has been solved in the past. The railway post office sorted mail en route for by postal clerks and existed as late as the 1970s, because Nixon was from SoCal and we really like our trains. While it may not be fully applicable it could still work for smaller liquid sort items, as for larger carriage specific ones I'm aware of at least one railyard that used to have those ones unlatched and moved as needed within a 5 minute period not accounting for stopping.

As the other guy noted it's basically one of the big routes for the movement of goods within the US also one of the longer ones. If it slows down it's usually a right fucken bad sign and usually is a pretty solid real world economic indicator of how the economy is doing even if it's a tad imprecise. I live right by where the CA 60 merged with the 10 which is a pretty major merger section and it has been getting increasingly sparce.

There was one instance when I was about 17 when someone punched me in the face so I hit him with a table, basically went berserk long enough to get him off me but didn't act like a sociopath since I was kinda too hungry to think at that point I was already acting like a zombie trying to get to Taco Bell for lunch.
