Ok. Reference check is occurring! Role is between me and 1 other person. General manager said I'm the forerunner.

They want a police check. So I'll have to go over it again. I hope these guys are more understanding than the last lot. This job seems awesome.

Even if they balk at the police check, I know that if I can get in front of an interviewer, I'm almost always in with a good chance.

It's all looking promising. Crossing everything for you!

๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž You can do this Simon.

[โ€“] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Simon really needs an income...

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Simon says he wants this job.

That was a good one lol

Ugh. Miniest was coughing all night and had us both waking up intermittently. I feel like I can't be bothered but I've gotta go to work ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. The CBF factor is high today ๐Ÿ˜†

You seem to have come down with a case of gastro. Best not to go in today.

Some dude was screaming in the alley last night. Went away and came back a few times.

My brain is mush. I swear to Odin, if he comes back tonight... I don't know lol. I'll prolly yell at him from my balcony while shaking a fist at the clouds.

Edit: also all this racist discourse about the new Assassin's Creed game is giving me life. These douches think a black samurai isn't historically accurate... When he was a real dude... And also it's Assassin's Creed! Literally a game about a secret history, time travel, fist-fighting a pope, a precursor race who had enslaved humanity... Like, what? These idiots have never played an AC game, and it shows.

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I don't understand it either. I feel like no one can be truly creative or craft any story these days because it comes under scrutiny for the tiniest thing.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago

I dislike Ubisoft because of micro transactions (along with other publishers as well); to the point that I tend to play indie titles now where possible. But I don't dislike AC for its lore or gameplay. Most big AAA games have an amazing story/world building - and I fully subscribe to the idea that games are an art form.

They're just racists. It's not about anything else, and it's gross af. I miss the days when 4chan Anons were confined to 4chan and everyone else made fun of them. Now they're everywhere, tainting everything with their disingenuous rhetoric, hiding behind whatever thin facade they can conjure.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago (3 children)

I really don't get the outrage when something dares to have a black character. Doesn't affect anybody. I wonder if these dudes also scream about medieval inspired games and tv shows having dragons.

Also this was a 5 second google of 'black samurai' (TW description of seppuku) https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/who-was-yasuke-japans-first-black-samurai-180981416/

[โ€“] Nath@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago

The only time I struggled was when they had Black Hermione in the Cursed Child play. I would have had zero qualms with her being black at the outset, and I was logically on-board with JK Rowling when she said "the books never specify her race, it's unimportant to her character". I'm even someone who can separate the movie and book portrayal of a character most of the time.

But Emma Watson has completely brought this character to life. I just couldn't reconcile the new actress with the character in that example.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 3 points 6 months ago

Anything that they can't fap to is "ThE wOkE aGeNdA". They don't about actual historical accuracy, they just use that as a cover for their cold takes and plain old racism.

Thank you for that link, too! Giving it a read now :D

Who is doing the screaming?

And the responses are poorly thought out.

It just bothers me. All this outrage and gate keeping is erasing diversity.

Got maybe 4 hours sleep last night? Feeling ROUGH today.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

My brain is still being demotivated about art. All it wants to do is sharpen the pencils.

Edit: Melbcat walked onto the keyboard, she says hi ---> "l...................................................................."

[โ€“] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

Hi Melbcat!

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago

Successfully unblocked the cat. Sheโ€™s still not feeling good in her tummy so sheโ€™s resting.

Itโ€™s quite chilly and theyโ€™re relatively inexpensive so I got both the electric blanket and the throw. I also got a few little things Iโ€™d kind of been needing

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 7 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

Cat TMIPoor kitty is bunged up and her tummy hurts... waiting on the vet to call back. I have Microlax that could get her going but want to be sure it's safe to do at home first.

I've already given her some Osmolax and might see if she'll let me start mixing pumpkin baby food into her wet food again.

I'm tossing up between getting a heated throw or an electric blanket because I keep constantly boiling the kettle for hot water bottles. (Don't like turning on the heater because it's expensive to heat the whole room and the energy escapes without good insulation, also I can overheat easily when it does warm up.)

While I'm on the site I'm also checking out the cheap skincare at Kmart, since out of laziness I've basically been washing my face with bar soap/just plain water in the shower and using a bit of thin unscented lotion after. Not much outside of that except sunscreen so it's getting a bit dry and congested.

There's a sensitive unscented moisturiser that could be a cheaper alternative to the Cerave lotion. There's also a foaming cleanser that I'm still deciding about. It could be more drying than the Cerave gentle cleanser but might remove sunscreen better... I did buy a small tube of sorbolene to see if that would clean it off but I remembered that sorbolene can leave my skin red and stinging.

[โ€“] dumblederp@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

5 mins of 1500w kettle = 60 minutes of a 50w heated throw.

Electric blankets are super cheap to run.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 6 months ago

I have super sensitive skin and the clearasil wash is one my doctor recommended. I also use savlon to reduce inflammation and a mild lanolin as moisturiser.

[โ€“] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Alright. Managed to get to the gym. That's pretty much me for the day.

I just want to whinge for a sec: how is it fair, that you eat super healthy for months, then have a packet of chips, and then feel fucked the next day.

/Whinge over

Edit: someone listened to a couple of my songs on SoundCloud! I had 7 plays, so obviously I'm a famous rock star now lol

I had some nice customer service from Google. I know Lemmy is full of people de-Googling and raging at how Google is the devil, but they honestly do treat you differently if you are a Google Workspace user. That's actually annoying most of the time, as I can't use a pile of services because the privacy protections of Workspace accounts aren't compatible with some things.

Anyway: on top of my workspace account, I have paid about $25 each January for extra storage. Over the weekend, "Google Ireland" refunded me that $25. I figured they were up to some sort of tax haven shenanigans and I'd be re-billed. It turns out I was out of line: Google have increased the storage allocation to Workspace users and that extra storage I've been paying for is now free.

If they had emailed me to say I don't need to pay going forward, I'd have been happy. If they'd given me a half-refund because I'm half-way through my year, I'd have been happy. But they refunded me the whole amount. That's above and beyond. Thanks, company-that-knows-everything-about-me.

Just moved a bunch of bluestone, same sort of size bricks old houses were built of.

Whoever built those old double story bluestone houses my gawd their backs would be gone. Surely they used some sort of pulley system.

They are HEAVY.

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

probably used this or similar We don't give old time tradesmen enough credit for sheer physical strength. There's a reason North Melbourne football club was based on the butchering trades in that suburb - it was a ready source of really strong powerful and physically active blokes.

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 points 6 months ago

Ooh interesting I hadn't about the brick hod before. I couldn't imagine doing that all day every day.

TIL if you use the self serve whojy at Aldi and press finished and then put your bags back in the trolley and take too long doing it, you get timed out and you have to stand there like a stooge until somebody fixes it for you so you can pay for your stuff. ๐Ÿ˜

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Good to know.

I only wish the 2 Aldi spots I shop at most often had self serve kiosks.

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 3 points 6 months ago

I despise self serve so I most certainly do not want that. I feel offended at Bunnings having them :/

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That's a bloody expensive domain! I might just go for .net....

[โ€“] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Holy fuck. I wish I'd bought some brand names back in the early 90s, but I was still a young teenager.

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

"I should've brought a house in 2007 instead of being 2 months old smh my head" vibes

[โ€“] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Lol exactly. Let's not talk about Bitcoin....

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The cheapest I remember it being is like 7 grand or something in 2019. I was actually mining it at the time (thought I could buy a phone with it lol) and I remember mining for months on my MacBook and finally hit a buck. I lost it to coinbases KYC stuff, since I was like 12. That would've been worth 5 bucks at BTCs peak ๐Ÿ˜ข

I could have bought it for about 100 bucks per coin. But i probs would have sold it when it got to 200 lol

[โ€“] bull@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

When would be the best time to get COVID? That's the question I am currently asking myself because P&O Cruises just sent me through notification that I have $1800 in cruise credits to use before the end of the year.

I don't particularly want to go on another cruise but $1800... maybe I'll just do one of those quick ones out of Melbourne down to Tassie or something just to get out of the apartment.

[โ€“] Nath@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago (3 children)

I would not want Covid again. If you are hoping to get it ahead of a cruise to maximise your resilience ahead of exposing yourself to it, I'd question whether it's actually worth such a risk. That all said, if you could control such things, then time it for about a month before you travel. You'll have a couple of weeks to recover and will be at peak resistance when you travel.

You run the risk of course of being someone who gets what is called "Long Covid". If you've never had the virus previously, I wouldn't risk this at all. It's nasty at the best of time with all the boosters and stuff. It's extra nasty the first time, and you might have long-term effects.

Amazon Prime Video are adding ads to their movies and shows unless you pay another $3 per month for no ads.

Amazon clearly aren't making enough money the poor dears. I hope they're ok.

I'd instantly unsubscribe and hit the high seas if I didn't also get Prime shipping from it.
