I did it! I got the contact I interviewed for. I just need to go through reference checks and I'll start in a week. Everything has worked out and lined up for once.

This will get me on the other side of Christmas if I don't get anything else, and it will give me recent experience in the space I want to work in again.

God work is over. I need sleep and maybe some uber eats.

Tbh I'm still buzzing.

When I first got sober, the guy I lived with had a friend who ran open mic nights in Brunswick.

He got me to go along to watch and I ended up doing them for about a year every week. Was probably one of the few things that made me feel good about myself in those early days. Where you try to figure out who you are and what the hell normal life is supposed to be.

Once it was my birthday and they brought out a cake which was probably the happiest I'd been in more than 5ish years.

I stopped when I got into bands playing guitar again, and with Tafe and work, just stopped singing in general.

The band I was mainly concentrating on, and had an album recorded, gigs lined up etc died when lock downs happened.

Last night was a real big step back into live music. Thanks again everyone for all your support over the last 12ish months.

Means a hell of a lot ❀️

Seagoon update: login issues and she is waiting for her new account to be approved

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 13 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I'm glad to hear she is not Seagone. The unexpected absence was concerning.

Can I pre-order a fancy big cake for a welcome back celebration?

[–] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 9 points 1 month ago

Yes. Complete with marzipan art brushes and a fluffy meringue pair of cats on the top.

[–] bacon@aussie.zone 8 points 1 month ago

We have begun preparations

HR dumped this on a random desk in my office to show their gratitude for all we do. Starts off with "Hi team". There's two people who work in this area, me and someone else and we aren't in the same team, not even in the same site technically.

Dunno why they couldn't be honest and just say they found this at the back of their cupboard when doing a clean out. It would have been less insulting.

gratitude

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Someone in HR has children that no longer likes these snacks so has empty their pantry on your desk.

[–] danwritesbooks@aussie.zone 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Exactly my thoughts, lol.

Comes on the same day the site I work at was in the news because someone went whistle blowing to the media about conditions.

Very Homer Simpson "Inanimate? I'll show you inanimate" vibes.

You have to let it be known that a gift card would be more appreciated next time.

Can't see any on them. Lol.

Probably done with the "best of intentions", trouble is best of intentions really don't mean shit when acting on behalf of the company.

As a fundraiser, the school sent us to a website where you can view some art your kid has done and then order it as a pillow, tote bag, calendar or a bunch of other options. Only this website lets you look at every piece of art that every kid in the school has done and pick any art any kid at the school has done. You just say I want this kid's art on my $15 tote bag, thanks.

My dilemma is my kid is not the greatest artist in the school.

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you want to send a message to encourage art improvement, get another kids art on a tote or framed lol

[–] danwritesbooks@aussie.zone 10 points 1 month ago

"This could be you one day. But for now, it's little Tommy in your class."

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

As a parent you’re obligated to get your own kid’s art.

Without a doubt!

Something that's not getting as much publicity as it probably should. This got put up in the Coburg library, a friend of mine alerted me to it last night.

Drank last night, drinking tonight (because I forgot my FIL was coming over from Perth, and always goes to the turf bar lol), prolly drinking tomorrow (races that FIL must do when he comes to Melbs).

If I end up depression-posting, remind me I've been drinking for three days straight please

It's a Friday and I'm still feeling despondent and miserable in my bones despite every effort to cheer up. What a drag... At least I'm meeting up with a friend on Sunday as a reward for the mega-clean I gotta do tomorrow. Booked in 4 rental inspections for Sat, Mon and Tue. None are exactly ideal places but I gotta start inspecting at least for my own mental health.

I hope you find something suitable. What's happened is really, really fucked up.

The power imbalance between landlord and renter in this country is insane. It breeds a contempt for renters.

Australia could be a paradise, but instead we're desperately trying to find somewhere to live. For a 1st world country to be using housing as a commodity is repugnant.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 8 points 1 month ago

Thanks mate. I agree that the obsession with real estate as investment and this rent-seeking economy has been deleterious to the fabric of society on so many levels. It is not good for anyone's psyche...

I'm increasingly convinced that the only real way I'll earn enough decent coin is to live with family for a while rather than upskill/work harder. Not easy living with them (and they're interstate), but easier than sharehousing with strangers at this age.

It's otherwise so futile, pissing away so much of my hard work just to pay someone else's mortgage and taxes.

Sox is being unbearably cute today. Cuts through the ennui a bit, even though I've been neglecting her, lost in my own darkness. I've carefully kept away her very long whisker from last night as a good luck charm for the weeks ahead.

Hey so you all know my body is giving me an extremely hard time with eating/food and I’m still in a very long process of finding out why.

Would it be weird if I kept contributing to the Tucker Time thread/wherever with things I’ve had in the past or look good?

I’m trying to get the Aussie corner of Lemmy more active

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No it's not weird and I'd love you to contribute.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Sweet, I’ma check if chicken is still cheap (I know there’s a limit on eggs) and post a nice simple chicken doner I saw

Edit: Food Australia instance, that’s what I was thinking of

Anyone know if Seagoon is okay?

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 9 points 1 month ago

I've noticed her absence as well, I hope she is okay πŸ’œ

Finally got food into me.

Not feeling too great today. Was out grocery shopping and felt a wave of dizziness and, ears felt blocked and I came down with major sweats.

If I didn’t have a wall or trolley with me I would have needed to sit down right then and there.

Anyway I did manage to do my shopping and I am home now.

Going to maybe get another sandwich and coffee and sit down for awhile.

Gotta laugh: about to leave to go camping near NSW/VIC border. If we can get through today without being washed away I'll be happy.

Need to figure out a way to force feed a man yoghurt. Antibiotics have unleashed chemical warfare on the plumbing.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A surprise but firm squirrel grip. When he opens his mouth in shock, you shovel in the yogurt.

so, word on the street is that it is going to be a hot, humid summer. Any ladies here able to give recs for a hairdresser who can deal with fine....ahem....frizzy hair that has a tendency to curl? Shorter, rather than longer styles.

I dug out what I thought was a combination DVD and VHS player and plugged it into the TV, turns out it was just a really big DVD player. I couldn't get it working with the RCA inputs into the receiver so I've just hooked up the other DVD player for the moment. The current DVD player also has RCA output and that didn't work either, so it could be the cable.

I put on some DVDs for the kids and it was so much better. You know what you're in for, the shows have a proper start and end, and they can pick out a DVD like they do books when they're ready

Just ate a toastie that when I saw it I thought "hmm, it doesn't look great, but slim pickings, so whatever"... how wrong I was proven. Mushrooms, cheese, pesto, perfectly salty and heavenly and happiness!
