Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

Yesterday I discovered, after nearly 4 years in our house, that the showerhead has a heavy massage option.

Last week I'd mentioned to my sweetie that I'd like to look at adding a new shower system to the long term list of Things To Buy. We're currently in scrimp and save mode after a month-long Europe trip in August. I went to a Rammstein concert in Poland and halfway through I realised I was at the end of my headbanging days - the incredible shower system in our hotel and a very firm mattress was the difference between walking out the next morning or what felt like would be the rest of my life in a wheelchair.

So I'd resolved to get a new shower system, wasn't going to have the money for a while, and then just made my discovery. So I'm feeling like a million bucks this morning, and saving a thousand or so too.

After about 7 years in our house, we realised our bathroom mirror has a heat switch to defog the mirror. We still have a couple of switches around the house that we don't know what they do.

I can barely jump on a trampoline these days without the impact giving me headaches 🥲

That's awesome! I'm not sure what a heavy massage shower head is, but it it costs $1,000 I guess I'm not going to find out 😆

I had my old car for four years before I realised that the random hole in the side of the glovebox was an aux plug for the stereo. I'd been putting up with shitty FM transmitters the whole time.

Congrats on the unexpected shower upgrade, especially BEFORE you dropped the dosh on a new one. We put one of those shower heads in a few months ago and it's amazing.

That's brutal

Protip for those job hunting: if you're going to fake your references (and tbh you should), don't do it from the same network. Even sending one while connected to your wifi and the other from your phone on mobile data should be fine (though different devices on different networks would be better). Also don't do one and then immediately do the other.

The reason is software will show the IP address it was submitted from, and the time the link was accessed, if we get multiple from the same address or one is submitted and then the next is immediately opened then it looks pretty sus.

Last note, if you put a reference as someone overseas make sure you're not submitting the reference at a weird local time. The amount of references where it is submitted at 2pm local time, but it's a "British referee" is hilarious.

Best of luck peeps.

How do I fake references? Won't I get caught when they try to call?

[–] eagleeyedtiger 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Got to put on a fake voice. Maybe an impression of an Aussie?

[–] Panq 3 points 1 year ago

Alternatively, pair up with other job seekers to be each other's references.

[–] Kirca@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Most corporate types start with an online form of some sort, or will be completely online if timezones are a factor.

With regards to calls, ask your closest professional sounding friend to lie for you would be my go to

[–] Dave 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have an endless supply of real references so it was more of a hyperthetical question. I'm wondering how prevalent it is though. I've never had to lie to get a job.

Yeah I'm lucky in that regard too tbh, and am now in a position to see it from the other side, an applicant was declined which prompted this post, I know a lot of people who aren't so lucky, especially if you hl can't use your current employer or have a large gap in your work history you can't or don't want to explain

The worldwide Starlink outage will be affecting many rural kiwis like me today.

Ukraine wanting to use their drones again?

A worldwide outage, how?

[–] sortofblue 3 points 1 year ago

I have weeded things and raked other things. Then raked some more, just because the sun is out and I can go at my own pace (i.e. I'm the only one home today so no witnesses to the wonky-ass way I do things).

More than anything else, I wish I could afford to work four days a week because Wednesdays off is the greatest discovery of my adulthood, lol.
