This topic received 400+ upvotes on Reddit. The Redditors went wild over this, suggesting it must be a far-right insider who worships Elon Musk, and that he should be fired. Seems like a hack rather than a rouge employee or a bad case of journalism.

It should be obvious that nobody in our media uses the term "colour revolution" to describe the Maidan coup/revolution. This is a term that is used exclusively by anti-NATO or anti-US groups.

BTW this wouldn't be the first time that a website was hacked, and had some propaganda edited into it. Years ago I saw a BBC article that was compromised by Israel.

It would be interesting if that was the case, but RNZ did say "an investigation is under way into "the alleged conduct of one employee" who has been "placed on leave while we look into these matters."" That would be a very reactionary thing to do from an employer if there was just the possibility of an account being hacked.

They're now saying it was 15 articles since a year ago.

It’s definitely weird for an NZ-government owned outlet to take the Russian propaganda pill. It doesn’t really matter if it was a rogue employee or a hacker - its a huge problem. Russian attempts to spread propaganda online are part of their effort to destabilise western democracies, and it would be naïve to think NZ is immune to this stuff.

What was the BBC article you saw compromised by Israel?

I can't remember the article but this was 10 years ago, perhaps more. Usually I remember where I lived when I saw a particular article or news story, but in this case I can't remember. It was during an active conflict. Some Israeli hackers must have edited a page, because there was a comment about child sacrifice in the middle of a BBC article. It said that Jews gave up child sacrifice 3,000 years ago and Palestinians were still practising it.
