A facsimile of the popular Facebook group of the same name, but in no way affiliated.

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine or advice forum.
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions, identify objects or get advice. We accept very few questions, and they must be over topics much more difficult than what is easily discoverable with a search. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

**6. Not hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

8. All polls must have an "Africa, by Toto" option. Why? Because we hear the drums echoing tonight.

Syrup from a can (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by AA5B@lemmy.world to c/dull_mens_club@lemmy.world

It’s the weekend, so I got up early, walked the dog and started thinking about what to make my kid for breakfast.

I spent way too long looking at a four hour recipe (why not, dinner is a smoked pork shoulder that I really need to get started asap) before giving it up

Started off normally: eggs over easy and sausage links. Let’s make the pancakes a little different with bananas and walnut, and top with fruit and nuts ….

Critical question: why do we buy a specific syrup for pancakes? It’s just sugar (or corn syrup). So I used the syrup from canned mangoes!!!! Tastes great but a bit thin and I didn’t use enough. It would be easy enough to thicken up, I’m sure. But why isn’t this the norm? We should have flavored syrup all the time, maybe save money over the maple stuff

Oh, and splurged with egg nog.

We use Maple Syrup, not corn syrup or sugar, because it tastes better than just a simple syrup. The flavor of expensive, actual, 100% real maple syrup is sublime and when drizzled over a warm pancake it adds an earthy, toasted sweetness. With some butter the syrup transforms into ambrosia and you will have to fight off Greek deities to enjoy it.

I think they’re Canadian deities…

Unpopular opinion, I prefer the fake maple syrup.

Depends on the brand. Cheap fake syrup can be bad, but I'll take Mrs. Butterworth over real syrup every time.

It's the classic combo and you know there is real maple syrup that isn't just corn syrup... Might want to try that.

Beyond that -canned juices aside - there are many toppings for pancakes.

I am disappointed to not see the can the syrup came from in this picture.

I do not buy specific pancake syrup; I simply use maple. Very, very rarely I get a fruit flavored syrup, like strawberry or boysenberry.

When we go up to visit my wife’s parents in Quebec I see that they sell maple syrup in a can, too. I find this less useful because there’s no way to close it. My wife’s parents are emigrants from France, so not always as into traditional Canadian/Quebec foods. They always buy the cans and sometimes send it home with us because I’m always trying maple foods while we’re there. We have to wait until we empty the jug from Costco and then refill it from the can to have a more usable option.

Christ on a bike mate, I know a few geezers who'd stab you if you served them a sausage that looked like that lol

It's Brown & Serve sausage and it's fucking delicious. Tell your geezer friends to stop gatekeeping food.

Brown & Serve sausage

I'm going to assume this isn't allowed to be called food in most countries 🤢🤮

It's just par-cooked meat. About like frozen dino nuggies and similar products in the freezer isle. Nothing wrong with par-cooked foods. They aren't the same as fresh, but it's not like it's from a chemical/carcinogen bath either. They have their own flavors and some are great while others are just mid.

[–] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

A quick Google for the ingredients turns up the phrase "mechanically recovered meat"

It might be par-cooked but it's ultra-processed and I've no fucking idea how yous let that become normal
