It's strong/structural, infinitely recyclable, environmentally inert, it just turns back into sand, food-safe.

Pretty cool video from the council about how glass bottles are recycled in Auckland.
That's really cool, thanks for sharing!
That part with the gobs of hot molten glass flying everywhere is very Star Wars like(from about 5:00 to 5:40).
It also looks super quick, pumps out bottles like crazy!
