Love how some of his loudest critics are his own daughter and his own AI.

[–] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Elon is only a free speech absolutist in the sense that he’s absolutely free to censor speech he doesn’t like.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

Free speech absolutism quickly got hijacked by the early far-right of the internet. From dumb idea of "we should let everyone say whatever they want, words are just words", it evolved into the switcharoo of the far-right doxxing and harassing its opponents, accusing them of "intolerance", but when their opponents did the same, doxxing and harassment suddenly became a bad thing that must not be tolerated by anyone. Even mere criticism of the right became akin to the most brutal actions committed by state actors.

Innuendo Studios, when talking about the "You go high, we go low" tactic of the alt-right, he used the example of packing the court. In reality, the tactic is probably as old as Adolf Hitler accusing others of censorship for not giving him a platform.

Aaaand the solution to this? Get the fuck off Twitter. I don't know why people love to see blatant abuse of authority and are cool with that. Quit being chodes and supporting a chode.

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I've always found the obsession with that pathetic platform a bit sad.

[–] cryoistalline@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Suggestion the public is being manipulated

to me this sounds like they're trying to cover something they're doing up

[–] 50MYT@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Bullet ballot voting % increases, swing states using a database acquired through a "undecided voters" campaign, and a wireless internet service provider being used to send votes from remote locations.

Nothing to see here.

[–] carl_dungeon@lemmy.world 234 points 1 day ago (10 children)

Why the fuck is anyone still using Twitter

[–] cRazi_man@lemm.ee 84 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Or even talking about shit like this? Musk is living rent free in a lot of people's heads. The way to make him irrelevant is to treat him as such. Making a fuss about everything he says, gives him undue importance.

[–] bassomitron@lemmy.world 87 points 1 day ago (2 children)

To be fair, he's commanding a ton of influence among policy makers, so it's pretty critical to not completely ignore the bullshit he's up to.

[–] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 35 points 1 day ago

It’s one of those things where, while I’m sick of hearing about his bullshit, I need to know if he does something that directly affects me. E.g. if he started doing a similar thing in my country as the stuff he’s trying with Britain at the moment then I’d write to a couple of representatives to let them know they’ll lose mine and many other votes if they side with the dopey billionaire muppet.

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also because people like Musk are further empowered when no one is looking. I'm as tired of hearing about him as anyone but will keep reading until he's in prison, dead, or at least not the de facto president of the united states.

Momentum.

The average person is really hard to move to a new platform. I saw this when Skype was the big thing for internet communication the Microsoft slowly made it worse and worse before it was barely a shadow of its former self.

Alternatives existed, many that were much better, but they were slightly harder to use or came along way after people were already set on Skype.

It wasn't until discord that the internet shifted, but even discord has its problems.

Many answered you already but i'm gonna provide you with another piece of the puzzle. Why the fuck there always multiple threads about elon musk on lemmy frontpage? Propaganda and marketing runs deep.

Politics, sports, musicians, celebrities, news ...

Those are slow to move off if they are at all.

It's a shame.

Isn't it great that Americans are so intelligent and well-informed that we voted to give this trashcan more power?

We pretty much fucked any chance we had for the middle/lower classes to gain more power/influence during our lifetimes. Weak middle/lower classes = shit country. It's only going downhill from here.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

We pretty much fucked any chance we had for the middle/lower classes to gain more power/influence during our lifetimes.

I may have disagreed with you if Kamala hadn't spent the end of 2024 proving that the destruction of the traditional Republican party (not that I was a fan of R in the first place) was all the excuse D needed to sprint to the right. It's not even like D is trying to pull things the other way, they have literally just embraced this opportunity to become even closer to corporate interests and move their party to the right.

They are fighting R because they are obligated to do so, but I no longer believe anyone in power in the Democrats cares any more about the middle class and non-white, non-male, non-Christian, non-straight Americans than R does. Pelosi put the final nail in the coffin of my good will towards Democrats.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I mean you can, and should be, pissed off at Democrats all you want. Doesn't change that all data point towards them being a better decision for middle/lower class Americans.

Problem is, a bunch of Americans feel the way you do, but instead of still voting intelligently, despite being upset with Dems, they chose to stay home or vote 3rd party.

So now a felon rapist is our leader and the ultra rich have made it abundantly clear average people like us are going to lose even more power.

The ratchet effect is real. I'm glad that I don't have kids.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

If the right will continue to have weird ideas, they might force you to have one. First it'll be tax-breaks for families having children, then an outright childless tax, then other repercussions.

This is not even a surprise. It's exactly what I expected in fact. Just don't use X/Twitter/whatever we call it this week. Just don't use it, delete your account. It's literally a platform for Musk and the people that think like him now. Even taking part is validating him right now.

[–] pencil_nerd@mander.xyz 18 points 1 day ago

Sorry conservatives, you are now woke too. You gave it your best.

[–] Marin_Rider@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

legit simply turning around their shit and calling them woke drives them batty. it's like the "weird" thing was at first except it enrages them even more. just keep doing it. call their culture wars "woke nonsense". whatever it is just turn it back on them and watch them burst blood vessels.

I bet Grok doesn't even have a clue about Twitter policies and is just making shit up

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Exactly, I don't know why people haven't understood that yet, Grok is just another LLM, it doesn't know shit, it doesn't understand shit, it just regurgitates words from the data it's been trained on and it certainly isn't an insider at Shitter.

Stop asking Grok what the fuck Elon is doing

IT

DOESN'T

KNOW

[–] leftytighty@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 day ago

The point is that LLMs are naturally biased but they're also explicitly biased by the people training them. Knowing what biases are being programmed into these LLMs by their owners is a glimpse into their agenda.

If you want to read more on the subject these are referred to as "system prompts" and you can read about various "system prompt leaks" that can include such things as explicitly right wing walking points.

Grok may very well have such nuggets in its system prompt.

Sorry, you're going to have to be more specific. Musk? Is that a smell or something? Is there context I'm missing here?

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's important to reference this old chestnut in times like this:

The Internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

This applies to human behavior on this medium, not the machines and services themselves. So, the more service providers tighten their grip, the more users slip through their fingers. Short of that, people can also just adopt new slang to circumvent automated censorship mechanisms.

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

why post an insubstantiated claim instead of just screenshotting the grok response? I want to believe this but it seems completely made up

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What more does the Grok response provide? The response itself is made up. Ask the LLM the same question 5 times and you will get 5 different answers.

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It provides evidence of the claim.

I understand that a simple first-hand account doesn't require evidence, but this isn't even that. The post doesn't say "I asked Grok this and this is what it said", it's literally "people" who supposedly asked it and supposedly got answers like that. Who? How many? What kind of responses exactly?

It combines lack of evidence/sources with hearsay, like what even is information worth at that point.

[–] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

Of course he does this after the election.
