Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

Making progress on my job front! I've cleared the pre-employment verification checks, future boss called me to say that they'd be generating the contract soon. But due to the timing and HR processes, I won't be able to start until the beginning of next month. So I still have to watch my expenses and hold out for about a month before I get paid. :|

And I really wanted to buy that fancy new Dyson cordless vacuum... I mean, I still can, but that'd be irresponsible of me. Adulting sucks sometimes.

vacuum... Adulting sucks...

Was that intentional? 😃

Thanks for sharing your job progress btw, exciting!

Let's just pretend I'm clever and say it was intentional. :D

Beginning of next month isn't long!

I know many hate BNPL companies, but I use Afterpay all the time for stuff like this. I know I can outright buy whatever it is, but just spreading out the payments feels a bit easier on the bank account. I generally never have more than one order going at a time though.

Put some late citrus out for the birds. I mean that thing where you cut it in half for them. We put ours in the branches of a tree that has no leaves in winter so they can see it/get it easily.

I love watching the little waxeyes/silvereyes/tauhou hopping around on them enjoying a feast.

Speaking of waxeyes, one of the words in yesterday's Waffle was "pipit" - which I got wrong. I assumed it was "pipet", and as a result, I couldn't get a perfect score. "Pipit" was a new word for me, so I looked it up, and then I learnt about passerines, and how it included waxeyes/tauhou.

I like when random things like that lead me down a rabbit hole of learning.

Omigosh thank you for sharing "pipit"! I have this really weird memory of seeing what I thought was a super odd thrush/sparrow cross down near the Kaingaroa forest and I bet this is what it really was!

Oh that's a cool idea. What kind of citrus do they like? I'm assuming not lemons (that we have an abundance of)?

We give them tangelos, oranges, mandarins. Haven't tried grapefruit but I bet they would like it if it's sweet. You have to cut them so that there's a cross-section of open segments (like how people do for breakfast grapefruit halves).

It's really cool because often they won't go near windfall fruit but as soon as it's cut open and up on a stick or tree they love it. Tui eat it too, especially in winter when there's not a lot else going on.

Awesome, I'll give it a go next time the kids go through a phase of really liking oranges, then suddenly won't touch them 😆

Our almost 1 year old is a butt scooter. She can soldier crawl when she's on her tummy but hasn't figured out how to transition from one to the other. She also loves exploring it seems, we're kinda worried what she's going to be like when she can walk.

Still it makes me laugh every time as she looks like a little chimp using her arms to butt scoot around the house
