They're so damned easy to spot once you know. I started out catching them in our college bars.

Had an agent of some sort follow me around the airport. He was clearly trying to look nondescript but his build, hair, clothing, demeanor, boots, all screamed FEDERAL AGENT. I only noticed him because I saw him a second time, which is a little odd given most people in an airport get where they're going and park themselves. After watching him a bit he was actively avoiding my gaze. I guess the military backpack, combat boots and long hair made me look like a terrorist?

I fucked him with a little, doubling back and making him follow, watching him in store reflections. LOL, he stopped at a closed store to watch me in the glass. Kicker is, it was a woman's store and there was nothing interesting you could see from the concourse. And worse, he stood like a mannequin, utterly uninterested, obviously didn't even know what store he picked. Guess he picked up on me fucking with him and bailed. Never spotted another tail, but who knows?

Why do you guys have gaps around your toilet doors it's so weird

[–] Chronographs@lemmy.zip 41 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Because we do everything as cheaply and shittily as possible

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 months ago

So true. I was in the UK and my grandmother's front door and windows were like something from 30 years in the future. Such solid material and build quality, and when you lock the door it activates 3 locks; the one at the handle, then one near the top and bottom.

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

But it seems like doors would break off their hinges way too easily by folding the wrong way.

It doesn't even make sense for cost savings

[–] Chronographs@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 months ago

I mean there’s usually a piece of metal near the latch that prevents them from opening the wrong way, you’d have to use a lot of force to break them.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

They like to watch.

You are a bot.

[–] yucandu@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Well just think how your outfit would look from a grainy black and white ceiling camera, from people trained on videos of the Unabomber and Columbine.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Forgot to mention, there was a grenade pouch on the back at the time. Turns out that though they're cheap, they're utterly impractical for anything but an actual grenade. Spherical pouches suck. :(

That's one heck of a terrorist if I've ever seen one! :P

And humble! 😆

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You totally should have just walked up to him at the women's store and asked him what he thought was so interesting.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I have so many regrets about not fucking with him.

"Say buddy! You know you're obvious as fuck, right?"

Gay commie, possibly undercover as well lol

NYY hat gives them away every single time

[–] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm sorry but what kind of uncover cop chooses to wear a thin blue line bracelet? Isn't that, like... A bit on the nose? 😂

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

They're not known for being bright.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

i wish you had a photo from the front as well so you could better show "thumb for a head".

[–] tophneal@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 months ago (3 children)

What kind of best would that be? Doesn't look like it could be remotely effective...

[–] Starski@lemmy.zip 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah there's no way it would stop anything higher than 9mm, but that's often good enough

[–] tophneal@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

If it fits under a shirt that well, I feel skeptical it could even stop a knife

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 18 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Stopping knives is actually way harder than stopping bullets.

They require something closer to the dragon scales used for big shrapnel. And even those then to deflect and allow the knife through.

Prison guards are the main market and it’s a specialty product.

That said I have no idea what the vest in the picture will do. Probably small caliber handgun protection.

Or maybe for when he gets hit by his comrades rubber bullets and tear gas grenades.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Since you seem knowledgeable in this arena...what about 10mm? Would that be effective in general?

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago

Sorry I only have secondary knowledge from an acquaintance that used to work on knife proof vests. He built test rigs and when he inspected the spikes used for approval, he said the tip still looked like a single point no matter how much (optical) magnification he used.

Not the person you're replying to but this gives a good rundown.

Soft armour (ie what can be worn under a shirt without being TOO obvious) can be up to level 3a (HG2)

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

10mm is a weird caliber that is kinda in a weird niche overlap where it's okayish at a lot of things but isn't great for anything in particular. Better to go for 9mm P+ if you are thinking 10mm hell even .357 magnum or .45 ACP would be better off as a whole.

[–] CaliforniaSober@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Levels of protection

Level 1 vest would be just small and just shitty enough to fit the bill…

[–] thanksforallthefish@literature.cafe 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Dude, wrong link, that's armoured vehicle armour ratings

"NATO AEP-55 STANAG 4569 is a NATO Standardization Agreement covering the standards for the "Protection Levels for Occupants of Logistic and Light Armored Vehicles"

Body armour here

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_body_armor_performance_standards#NIJ_armor_standard_(United_States)

Level 1 got re-rated last year - so older than 2024 Level 1 will stop a .22 or .380ACP post 2024 Level 1 will stop a 9mm (the old lvl 2)

I got accused of being a cop at my most recent protest 😅😅😅 I wore my usual work boots, pfg, suspenders, etc.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

Suspenders are where you fucked up they are cops, military, rangers, and firefighter clothes. Also Amish but they can be ignored.

[–] CaliforniaSober@lemmy.ca 0 points 11 months ago

Suspenders?

[–] Fizz 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

This seems schizo. I dont think the red arrows are correctly identifying things. Thats a pack on zyns in the back pocket not cuffs.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

iirc this was taken before those were common. Also what is that other than a bullet proof vest?

[–] wackoCamel@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

I don't have a dog in this fight, but Zyns have been around 10+ years now and dip has been around much longer, which is the same size can. That said, one might argue the dip is also indicative of a cop, as many chew since they can't smoke on the job.

[–] Fizz -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I dont think its a bullet proof vest its way to thin. It looks like a compression undershirt to me.

[–] ozymandias@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 11 months ago

it does look like a vest… not actually a bad idea to wear one at a protest.
otherwise, schizo….
if seen people go around saying people with goatees are all cops, 100% of the time.
i think these are all about infighting.
like “cop boots”?
no, if they’re wearing the exact same boots as the uniformed cops, they’re cop boots.
otherwise they’re boots, exactly what you should be wearing at any protest that has a chance of getting hairy….
cops would love it if everyone wore flip flops
