I was a vampire in elementary school in the 80s (edit: for Halloween once, not full time). They had capsules to put in your mouth to do this back then.

Unless you storm out against medical advice no doctor or dentist is going to discharge you while you're actively losing blood.
Gauze (or anything else in your mouth for that matter) makes you salivate. That mixed with a little bit of bleeding can look like a lot of blood. Or maybe she just drooled on herself and thought it looked bloodier than it actually was.
this probably was a hallucination this person had after dental surgery because it never happened.

probably. i saw it in an animated short in which the lizard rides the tube and gets scared by musicians and shoots blood onto a family of ferrets.
