My parents and in laws are here visiting NZ. They were getting a bit bored in the house so wife and I decided to take them fishing this coming long weekend. We have rods, and baits but we are still undecided/have no idea about a lot of things.

Any tips on where to fish? We live around Johnsonville so would prefer somewhere around 30 min driving distance. Also, is there any website that is useful for fishing e.g. regarding minimum fish sizes, weather checker that suggest the best time to fish?

Makara from the rocks is OK if you don't mind a walk.

Google Pete lamb fishing. His website is a great source of local knowledge.

I see a lot of people fishing towards the end of Oriental Bay just set up along the footpath so you could go there. Nice and easy.

Get on a charter boat. You are more likely to catch fish that way. Make sure they won't get seasick though.

I get motion sickness really easily, and for me Sea-Legs works miracles.
