within three to five years

That's tech speak for "never"

The technology, developed by Borui Kang Medical Technology (Shanghai), is designed to restore hand-movement capabilities in individuals suffering from paralysis.

Specifically, the system targets patients with quadriplegia resulting from cervical spinal cord injuries, enabling them to regain hand-grasping ability through the use of a specialised glove.

Incredible technology, nonetheless.

But crazy to think this would be a commercial public service any time soon

It‘s standard „China is 50 years ahead of us!!!“ type media coverage and a core part of Chinese propaganda. They always make these spectacular claims and by the time experts and peer reviews chime in to debunk it or at least express serious doubts there‘s already another wild technology breakthrough claim from China. They know it takes a magnitude of effort to debunk fake news so they‘re always faster than people who actually have to read through their often AI generated slop studies. Even when the tech is technically real it‘s usually blown out of proportions. Even when they accomplish impressive tasks they coat it in lies. That‘s just how Chinese propaganda operates. You have to doubt everything.

That‘s just how Chinese propaganda operates

A KGB spy and a CIA agent meet up in a bar for a friendly drink

"I have to admit, I'm always so impressed by Soviet propaganda. You really know how to get people worked up," the CIA agent says.

"Thank you," the KGB says. "We do our best but truly, it's nothing compared to American propaganda. Your people believe everything your state media tells them."

The CIA agent drops his drink in shock and disgust. "Thank you friend, but you must be confused... There's no propaganda in America."

Oh I know a good one too! A tankie goes into a bar, does a little whataboutism.

Seriously you people are in desperate need of new material. You won‘t win anyone over with „US bad too!“ We know, but it‘s off topic here.

So what you're saying is that it's Reagans star wars program? A way of forcing unsustainable growth into a rival power at effectively no cost. Ya know history doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme, so what will the US equivalent of "Mr. Gorbachev tear down that wall be"? Or will it be more a wailing from inside the Whitehouse bunker as mustard gas is pumped in and the doors welded shut.

Good good. Now fulfill your destiny, and take your father’s place at my side.

Awesome! I hope it doesn't turn out like neuralink, I can't wait for this tech to take off. Assuming we last that long O.o

They say that if you want to buy property in a new building, wait five years until the problems surface then decide. I’ll let other people be the experiment and get in when the big problems are worked out. Besides I want implant version 10 rather than beta 0.9.

[-] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 months ago

Yeah, that's a fair take. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I'm. A little more willing to accept risks like these, but not wanting an alpha version of a piece of equipment inside your skull is a very rational take. In case my first response came off as snarky, I should clarify that I only responded that way because I didn't feel that there was anything to add, but I should still acknowledge your statement since you clearly intended for me to read it.

Wow my tism is in full swing right now I think lol

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

What’s a time? I’m curious

[-] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 months ago

tism = autism

I have a tendency to over explain when I feel I'm missing basic social cues
