Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)

Quiet piggy! You don't have the cards. Also, have you ever said 'thank you'?

[–] TheFriendlyDickhead@feddit.org 17 points 4 months ago

No you don't get it. He's the greatest person on this planet and should thank noone. Other people should thank him on their knees for even being allowed to be in his presence.

/s obviously

For him, yes.

“NATO faces a ‘very bad’ future if allies do not help,”

That already happened when you threatened Canada and Greenland. NATO is no-longer top priority, cooperation around USA is.
Example of that is the EU SAFE program, where also countries outside EU are participating like Norway Canada and Japan.
https://defence-industry-space.ec.europa.eu/eu-defence-industry/safe-security-action-europe_en

Another example from just this weekend, is the Nordic counsel, that had a meeting on arctic interests, with Canada, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland participating. Where all agreed on strategies for the defense of the Arctic region, and it was stressed that all supported the defense of Greenland.
Another forum where USA is absent, despite also having arctic interests. But are unwelcome because of the threats against Greenland and Canada.

So the very bad future is already here, and NATO countries are preparing to be able to defend themselves without USA.
And this very bad future, is ONLY because of USA. USA has torn up hundreds of agreements with allies, and threatened with invasion, and is waging a trade war, and constantly threatening all sorts of bad things that will happen if we don't do as USA says.
This is just another example, USA wants to force former allies into their illegal war against Iran. And is threatening consequences for not helping USA out of the mess they created.

”It’s only appropriate that people who are the beneficiaries of the Strait will help to make sure that nothing bad happens there,” Trump said.

The most intelligent statement I have heard from Trump. What can rest of the world do to stop USA and Israel wage war in Iran?

[–] Lemmchen@feddit.org 30 points 4 months ago

Go fuck yourself, you orange piece of shit.

[–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@lemmy.world 27 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Maybe we should give Iran a piece of US territory like they are trying to give parts of Ukraine to Russia?

Or we could charge him - not even the US, but Trump personally - a billion dollars per ally, plus another billion per ally for each week beyond whatever unreasonably short deadline he promises us the war will be over with?

Seriously though, we need to phase out fossil fuels and we need to do it 20+ years ago (but now is good too). Sun beams can't be bent by despots' will.

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 26 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I've had a theory that Trump has never had a real friend. Like ever.

Seeing how he treats allies during this administration is confirming that

[–] sidebro@lemmy.zip 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Jeff was his only true friend

[–] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 25 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Just say yes, he will forget all about the Iran war in 3 days anyway thanks to dementia...

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That's actually how you handle folks with dementia. If they say the sky is purple, you agree and try to redirect them.

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 27 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Crucially though, and I cannot stress this enough, you should under no circumstances let them become president of the country with the world's most powerful military.

[–] harmbugler@piefed.social 14 points 4 months ago

It's the world's most expensive military. With poor leadership and damaged former alliances, It's not translating into much power at the moment.

[–] Moneyball@lemmy.ca 22 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Two weeks ago, he said he didn’t need anyone’s military support.

Now he says, he needs everyone’s help otherwise NATO is at risk.

I am not sure what it is now that he needs

Update ‘a couple of hours later’: he is yet again saying he does not need help. Lol.

[–] mr_anny@sopuli.xyz 19 points 4 months ago

He just wants to find a justification to ditch the money consuming NATO.

He's been making beds with Putler Snd Winnie the Pooh and now they have a nice let's fuck this globe circle jerk thing going on.

Just wait the moment when China takes over Taiwan and US will do absolutely nothing.

All the three big babies get what they want. Almost.

[–] toad@sh.itjust.works 18 points 4 months ago (1 children)

How could it be worse than now? We're already led by pedophiles?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 4 months ago

Have you lived in America for the last decade? Trump can ALWAYS find a way to make it worse. For instance, he could order a draft.

I hope he does, that will make young people vote against him.

[–] answersplease77@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

it's not Nato's job to fight offensive wars for the colonial expansion project of a genocidal aparthied.
Netenyahu needs to bribe and blackmail many European governments like he did for Trump and US congress

[–] rogsson@piefed.social 13 points 4 months ago

Lmao fuck off trump, nobody cares what you say. But we’ll listen when you give us the complete Epstein files. Promise.

[–] jjpamsterdam@feddit.org 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The only country to ever invoke Article 5 was the United States. As things stand there is no scenario whatsoever in which Europeans will once again agree to fight and die in a futile American war in the Middle East. Let the Americans sort out their own mess. Perhaps we should even consider trying to find a solution to resuscitate the world economy together with China, India, Iran and other involved parties in the region.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I don't think they can even trigger article 5 this time around since they attacked first.

It's a defensive pact, you can people to defend you not to join in a war you started.

[–] Melchior@feddit.org 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Not only a defensive pact, but limited to attacks in Europe and North America. The US did not want to fight colonial wars for European NATO members.

[–] how_we_burned@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 months ago

I don't think Trump cares about that.

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 10 points 4 months ago

Jokes on him, we already are in the bad future and have for a while.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 4 months ago

No. Fuck off. We arent drying for zionist wars of bullshit

[–] fierysparrow89@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'd very much welcome clarity. Just like with a cancer diagnosis, clarity gives new impetus for dealing with the threat.

[–] IratePirate@feddit.org 4 points 4 months ago

He's a cancer and we need to deal with this threat ASAP. Clear enough?

[–] entropiclyclaude@lemmy.wtf 7 points 4 months ago

40 year old, well behaved American looking for adoption.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Not how NATO works you moron.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago

This is going to be freedom fries all over again

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

you mean it can get worse???

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 months ago

Worse? DeGaule was right about everything. About the US and europes reliance on them about britain in the EU

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 4 months ago

A few weeks ago, he was willing to disband NATO to get Greenland. Now he needs their help?

[–] BigShammy80@feddit.org 3 points 4 months ago

Trump does Trump things

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

We don't have the resources nor man power to defeat Iran. Our total boots on the ground fighting force is less than 200k. And about 2/3 of that is stationed for home or base defense. So maybe 30k available for this war. It would take 10 times that to fully occupy Iran

[–] lithiumground@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Puppy needs help,Lets give a hand Hypocrite European countries !
