Isn’t that pretty damn obvious already?

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

It was obvious from day 2. Both of his presidency in general and of this war in particular.

WHAT?! Are they really claiming the President of USA isn't telling the truth? Isn't Trump known for always telling the truth and never cheating?!
I have no idea who would believe such claims?

Iran watched and learned from both US and USSR.

US always understated their capabilities.

USSR always overstated their capabilities- especially in regards to hardware.

Iran has religious leaders claiming they'll blow up the US in bombastic fashion, such that everyone ignores it, that's the lesson from USSR - make yourself look like a bombastic overstatement.

What the US didn't expect was that they'd learned from them and have an extremely competent military, with incredibly understated hardware.

Trump has bitten off SO MUCH MORE than he can chew.

They knew. Don't fall for the narrative that this is the war of an incompetent president. The war with Iran has been planned since 2001. For a while people have to get used to a world without energy from the gulf region.

This president didn't plan a war. The plan was to kill the leader and done. It didn't work. Bombing Iran beyond that was already improvisation. Everything from that point on with the threats, extensions, closures just radiates incompetence and smells of a rich guy used to getting his way confronted with a hard no.

Is the entire US elite replaced by incompetence? Why is there no impeachment with that level of incompetence?

The elephant in the room is that the US are going to fight China. Iran would bomb their allies then.

Instead they have decoupled the demage from their war with China. It's strategic, like the war with Iran was prepared with the regime change in Syria, so that, with less supplies, the damage from Hamas is now limited.

I don't think that the plan was to just kill the leader. The democratic regime change failed, there was no momentum. I think they want to keep Iran in that state of war, but with less success for Iran.

The people who wanted to bomb Iran gave them 25 years to prepare. No shit they’re not easy to steamroll.

Trump should’ve stopped sending weapons to Israel as soon as The Hague put out an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.

Now we have to watch this slow crawl until Trump is booted from office in 2028 and a new guy takes office in 2029 or we end up seeing a disaster that sets back humanity for decades. For the next two years we’re hostages stuck with Trump’s dementia-laden choices. Screw our politicians.

Trump should’ve stopped sending weapons to Israel as soon as The Hague put out an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.

That would have been challenging, since the arrest warrant was issued in November 21, 2024 and it was Genocide Joe sending significantly more weapons to Israel than Trump ever did.

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 6 points 3 months ago

They should've stopped at least when they started a genocide in broad daylight.

I doubt much will change with a "new guy," but marketing strategy.

[–] EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I’m hopeful, but it’s true that Obama started more wars than Bush.

I guess the issue nowadays is the constant threat of nuclear conflict. Trump keeps saying he wants to nuke someone. Things are already bad enough without adding the end of human society into the equation.

Bullshit, all advisors warned strongly against it, until Trump surrounded himself with incompetent people and took the bait from Israel.
This war is near impossible for USA to win, and USA has already lost in so many ways, like exposing their incompetence militarily, lacking equipment both in quantity and defense performance, the petro dollar is threatened, and when that falls the USD will fall as a global reserve currency too. And USA is losing allies both in the gulf and in Asia because of this.

Iran and the US went to war in 1988. The US military is not that stupid, that they would not have planned to go to war against Iran since then. But that is just what capable militaries do. They make plans simulate them and then look what works and what new capabilites they need, if attacking is a good idea and so forth. Basically everybody who is capable in their jobs did call out that attacking Iran was a bad idea. That is why the US did not do it for decades.
