Heads? I think you mean two heads.

[–] kichae@wanderingadventure.party 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's pretty good! I've used larger -- not counting elephant garlic -- but that one's up there among some of the greats!

[–] Ludicrous0251@piefed.zip 3 points 2 months ago

Your mom has used larger.

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

That’s a big one. The largest I’ve seen is a bulb of garlic that was just one clove.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It never occurred to me that garlic could just not separate when growing like this.

A whole bulb being one solid piece would be interesting to see

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Apparently there’s a variety that always does that called solo garlic.

[–] brem@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Fasciated, perchance?

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You sure you didn't accidentally pick up some elephant garlic?

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Y'know I just went and looked at the package and that's exactly what happened lmao

Reminds me of the person who bought a carton of double yolk eggs without realizing and thought they just kept getting lucky πŸ˜…

[–] brem@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They should have "sideshow tents" at farmers markets that are just full of double yolked eggs & elephant garlic.. maybe a few giant gourds or a potato that looks like Bill Burr.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That would actually make me more inclined to go to one.

Despite being a professional cook my whole life I don't know near as much about vegetables as I should. I know the typical ones obviously but the fact I didn't even know elephant garlic was a thing makes me feel kinda uninformed

[–] RePsyche@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Have you considered feeling recently informed? It’s a fun thing to know about! That’s for certain!

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah but it just makes me realize how much I don't know and as a lifelong cook I should know.

Problem is I can't learn by reading or videos I need to be shown first hand in person how to do things in order to actually retain the information.

It's a special kind of hell 😭

[–] amgine@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I had this one this evening

[–] wuffah@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Oh yea? Once I found a clove of garlic thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big!

In awre at the size of this lad

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I was a comin' to say ... looks like a pretty standard sized clove of elephant garlic. Your edit has ruined my sanctimony and robbed me of my sense of superiority over you.

I like elephant garlic, but I don't like the price compared with plain ole run of the mill garlic. But this does give me an idea, maybe I should grow my own elephant garlic this year!

[–] Floodedwomb@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

It's also a lot milder than regular garlic.

[–] brem@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

It's a little & fun unknown fact that garlic can eat garlic & become ultra-garlic

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)
[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Unfortunately I already minced it for my dinner πŸ˜…

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

I mean, this seems like the optimal form of consumption, so... yea.

[–] brem@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I do both! I smash it first then mince!

[–] thallamabond@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Smash and pull apart, gets real soft, is good.

[–] Johandea@feddit.nu 2 points 2 months ago

Unexpected Avenged Sevenfold

[–] trinsec@piefed.social 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Not big enough. Add more cloves.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

At least two more.

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

It's like a megalodon tooth.

[–] PeroBasta@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Never heard of "aglione"?

Its an italian strain of garlic which is milder (so i think its similar to what you get can get in the USA)

Its very good and much better for some preparations

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Wait... That's big? Most of the garlic I use is around this size. Bargain market sells it.
